As with many, I've come down to a struggle with trying to get my MD to do some bloodwork for lyme and co-infections. I am particularly interested in getting the co-infection blood tests done. I've decided to drop the straighforward ethical approach and resort to subterfuge. I am going to tell my MD I was bit by a tick and had a bullseye rash. Are there any other symptoms I can relate to him that would justify getting the tests? I realize this is terribly unethical, but then this whole business is terribly unethical (toward us) and it is my health at stake.

eds~ I would not lie to your doctor. Tell him your symptoms and let him rule out the obvious causes. If those come back OK then consider infectious pathogens as a possible cause of your illness. Other pathogens besides tick borne ones can give you bizarre symptoms. HHV-6, EBV and Coxsackie B are just a few...

If you can't work with this doctor, find one you can work with.

Best, Timaca
