It's time for me to order more VSL. I bought the capsules last month but would like the more powerful powder this time.
BUT.. I don't drink fruit juices. Is it possible to drink that stuff with WATER?? How nasty is it?? Or is it "nothing?"

I mixed mine in unsweetened kefir. I did not try water...
Where do you order yours?
Thanks

I use plain water with vsl. Sometimes I mix it directly in the water and drink. Sometimes I pour the powder in my mouth and then drink water to wash it down.

I drank mine in water. Doesn't taste bad.

VSL#3 DS powder is way nasty. I could barely tolerate it when mixed with cranberry juice or lemon crystal light. It smelled bad to me too (though my mom said it smelled fine). I switched to capsules because I dreaded taking it every night.
I have not tried the OTC version of the VSL#3 powder. The website says it is lemon flavored so that is probably better than what I had.
Give it a try Lymetoo, you could always mix it in with some homemade lemonade (lemon juice + stevia).

hmmm... Two of you say it's fine and one says it's terrible...
I can't do the lemon.. acid reflux will get me every time.
I may be wrong, but I think there is an unflavored option and a flavored one. That may be why you are getting different answers on this.
I took the unflavored and had to mix it with something to hide the taste. I am back on the caps now and they are enough. I also use Saccharomyces Boulardi.

OH... Thanks, lymednva... That's probably it.
dang.. and I have to order the plain powder. Maybe after one month I'll be "cured."
Right now, I cannot eat yogurt. No way.

I use the unflavored and it tastes fine.
If using a whole packet, which I rarely do (I mostly use 1/4 - 1/2), in a glass of water it tastes a tiny bit funky bit completely tolerable. But a 1/2 packet or less in 10 oz water is nearly tasteless.
Oddly enough, the powder itself (unflavored) tastes very sweet.

I use the VSL #3 Double Strength packets (prescription). I used to add it to water and drink it. I got tired of it, so now I add into the protein drink I have for breakfast. I cannot taste it at all.
The VSL#3 DS works very well.

The main ingredient in VSL #3 unflavored other than the probiotics is corn starch, so it doesn't taste bad even unflavored.
Lemon flavoured VSL#3 contains maltose, natural flavourings and silicon dioxide. Unflavoured VSL#3 contains cornstarch. source: http://www.vsl3.ca/about.html Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
Do I have to have a prescription to order the DS??
Posted by nomoremuscles (Member # 9560) on :
I get my DS with a prescription.
But I think someone said that you can get it without one.
Posted by Sammi (Member # 110) on :
As far as I know, you need a prescription for the DS. Hopefully insurance will pay for part of it though which can save you money.

Boy I'm dumb! I should have called my insurance company earlier. I can get a 3 month supply of VSL#3 DS for $80. Yep. Three months!
With it being double strength, it could last me way longer than that!

Be aware that maltose usually contains gluten, depending upon the source from which the maltose is derived, so if you are trying to avoid gluten, you will want to choose a formula without maltose in it.
Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :
OH great. Do you know which one doesn't have maltose?
Posted by nomoremuscles (Member # 9560) on :
I am gluten sensitive, with a terribly reactive gut, and the VSL3 doesn't cause any reaction.
Wow. You are lucky that your insurance covers it. My insurer practically laughed when I brought it up.
