My husband has been ill with Lyme for a year now. he's been on several antibiotics and started to feel better over the summer but then "crashed" over the course of a month. All his symptoms from the beginning have crept back. We though it could be a herx but it's been at least a month and every day is worse than the day before.
Has anyone had this happen? Have the antibiotics stopped working? We are so confused and scared.

Could you tell us what he is taking??

Has he been tested for coinfections?

It's common to need to change around medications and try different combinations. What is he on? How long has he been taking it? Is he being treated for coinfections?

Sometimes, you need to take a break from abx. I've learned if the toxins build up, and you keep taking abx, you just overload your system. I took several "breaks" in my 4 years of abx to detox and let my body heal. Initially, you feel worse, but after a week or 2 I would feel much better. Stayed off for a month, then would go back on.

My girlfriend was on abx for 6 years and getting worse. She saw my LLMD who told her to stop and detox. The first week was h**l, she wanted to run back to abx. Now she's been off 4 weeks and feeling great.

Not everything is a herx or "the bugs"

I agree with both ideas. He probably needs a little time to detox but while he is off the abx he should load up with massive amounts of herbs to try to keep the infection under control. Then try a different combo of drugs. They do quit working after awhile which is why you need to switch them around.

It is also possible that a co-infection is coming to the surface.

Thanks for your replies. He Started with two different antibiotics for Lyme (Biaxin & ??) Then tested positive for Babesia. Six months on Mepron & Zithro. Started feeling better in June. The last two Igenix tests showed Babesia gone. Started on Flagyl and Biaxin in July was doing ok. Herxing off and on. Now it just feels like everything is back including the Babesia symptoms. He stopped the flagyl & biaxin on Sunday and still feels pretty bad. Could he be having a major herx?
