I seem to have developed a new symptom since starting IV 3 months ago. I seem to be jerking my shoulders up in a shrugging motion - very quick and almost like a reflex. I can't tell if it is in defense of pain or just a reflex of some sort. I definitely don't think about doing it, so it is involuntary. It is not constant - comes in spurts or just sporadic here and there. It developed on month 2 of IV.
Just wondering if this is what some call lyme shrug and is this common?

This sounds like a motor tic.

Tics can be a symptom of low magnesium and are common with Lyme Disease, as the Lyme bacteria use up the magnesium in our cells.

Thanks Carol. I know my calcium is low, so I've added a supplement, but I think magnesium is alright. I just had it tested.
The shrug is associated with discomfort in the neck/shoulders. I'll have to ask at my next appt. Hopefully it goes away!

jwall, Magnesium testing will not show the level of mag in your nerve cells.
When you buy, look at the list of ingredients. Mag oxide is cheap, but does not absorb well.

I my opinion its dying bugs!! I had it too..about 3 or 4 months into IV Rocephin and it did go away! thank God!! stress made it worse..and questran (Choleystryimine) really helps. I like to think of it as rinsing dead bugs out of my body and a lot of symptoms deminished. Best!

I take 1250 mg x2 per day of magnesium malate. I also use topical magnesium - Ancient Minerals brand. I'll try the Source Naturals - that sounds like a good one.
Thanks az, I hope it goes away. Sounds like me - it started at the end of the 2nd month of IV. I have a lot of pain in the neck, shoulders, back of head area and maybe it is related. LLMD did say toxins and put me on B-12 shots and deplin. I also use lactated ringers on my off antibiotic days to help flush.
