Janice,
are you treating Bartonella? That may be your answer. I experienced the same thing the other day after starting Rifampin.
My calves and the back of my thighs (hamstrings) were soooo tight that i could barely stand it. I tried to keep them moving as it felt better. It is now 2 days later and my leg muscles feel like i've done a marathon...the soreness that comes after a grueling work-out...
is this similar to what you're having? I had to back off of the meds b/c my sx were overwhelming....cramping/tightness wasn't my only complaint....
oh yes, there is no way i was dehydrated or lacking magnesium or potassium...so it was, imo, bart being attacked.

Janice,I had terrible calf pain, if I had sat for a while and got up it would feel like my calf muscles were going to snap......
Since taking lamictal it is much better, its still there but not unbearable, sometimes not even there.
Just to add I am taking antibiotics so maybe its that and not the lamictal.....who knows, I just know it better than has been......

I am treating Bart. Was on rif for almost 6 weeks.
It started a week ago. Last night was horrible and actually woke me up
Now I'm on mepron/bactrim ds/zith.
Florence 1`-What is lamictal for?

Janice, you might want to try homeopathic tablets by Hylands called Leg Cramps. They work very quickly for me. I keep them in my purse, the bathroom, and next to my bed.
The leg cramps get my thigh and calf muscles, and sometimes my foot, mostly in one leg and they often wake me up at night, sobbing. It's worse if I'm a little dehydrated, or have used my muscles a lot for walking or standing, or been on a long car ride or flight.
They are available in the health food store or natural grocery store for less than $10 a bottle. You can probably also find them in major drugstores like Walgreens and Rite Aid, and maybe Walmart too.
There is also a Leg Cramps cream available, but I've never tried that. I take 3 tablets, let them dissolve, and they work in minutes.
Take care, Nutmeg

Nutmeg. thanks for all your help. I have tried the Leg Cramps and like you, have them with me. I'll try them later.
Are you being treated for bart as well? Janice

Janice if find when I have the severe cramps, if I up my potassium it seems to releive the cramping some.
bananas I eat one a day and I make a mean green juice packed with potassium. Just my two cents worth.
