I have been told I am headed toward picc-land....can anyone tell me if they have worked with one in, and how long after insertion? How many hours a day, etc...please! Thanks in advance for any insight...you guys are the best!

I worked full time with a picc line for 4 months.

I worked in a dental office, wearing gloves and around chemicals all day. Was fine.

Made sure it was always wrapped and clean/dry.

I think I went right back to work.

The first picc line in left arm had a reaction and had to have another one within days in my right arm, but then, that arm was good for the 4 months.

Showering will become a routine of making sure it will stay dry, but I think they have new things to keep it dry compared to when I had it.

I went back to work the day after my PICC was placed. It was still sore so I took advil and tried to baby as best as I could. You may also use warm compresses a couple times a day to reduce inflammation and pain. I worked with my PICC for 9mo. My job was very physically demanding. I was always conscious to keep my PICC arm covered (so no risk of accidentally yanking out). You can wear long sleeves or 3/4 sleeve shirts and people probably won't notice. If you have to life heavy things on the job, ask for help. If you do too much (heavy lifting or repetitive motions) your PICC arm may start to throb and be sore then you know to rest it for awhile.
