Can both of these drugs cause neurotoxicity or is it just Flagyl that does?

Thanks!

One LLMD told me that both Flagyl and Tindamax can flare neuropathy. Does that mean they are neurotoxic, I am not sure.

When I started Tindamax about 1 month ago, it did flare my nerve pain, but now it seems back to baseline.

I started a thread asking anyone if Tindamax flared their neuropathy and got few replies.

Best of luck,
MB

I wonder if this "toxicity" is not from babesia breaking the small vessels... I think babs can be very reactive...

I took it with no problems. Now I'm on flagyl. I guess I'll find out how they compare.

Both can cause or increase neuropathy symptoms. My LLMD was hesitant to prescribe either for me because of this. I only took Tindimax for about 2-3mo total.

I was told to take vit B6 (the P-5-P form) with each dose of Tindamax, along with a vitamin B complex and multivitamin daily to reduce the chances of increasing neuropathy.

I was also told to stop taking Tindimax immediately and notify my doctor if it increased any neuropathy symptoms.

This doesn't make any sense to me. My LLMD prescribed Flagyl because he said that it would target the lyme in my cranial nerves.

If Flagyl makes it worse, than what does someone with neurolyme take to ease their symptoms? How do you get rid of neurolyme if not with flagyl?

I think you have to take one or the other, but just watch for increased neuropathy, like more numbness or tingling after taking the drug.

From what I understand, I don't think it's a concern until you get up to the higher doses.

I am at 1500mg of tindamax... that's why I asked. It's in the higher range so I was concerned about it.

My symptoms at present are primarily neuro too. Twitching, zaps, headache. Hope something works soon.
