Hemamocrit (sorry prob spelt wrong) is like 1.5 mg over and hemoglobin is .5 mg over.

After reading what this could mean I'm very scared. Llmd didn't leave a note with it so he is not concerned... Should I be?

I've had numerous blood test and just two months ago these were both normal... Only things that changed were the weather, my car has an exhaust leak I can't afford to fix so I have been driving with the windows up in the cold weather, I've been going out more around more smokers, and I added flagyl... Could it be the flagyl? I've never had either elevated.

Are you dehydrated?

Maybe you need to drink a lot of water today?

Huh I did drink a ton of water this morning and it really helped my fatigue... My body is really dried up from the weather..

I get my labs drawn every week, and the numbers can fluctuate. I would call Monday if you are concerned, but I wouldn't worry too much this weekend if your doctor didn't seem worried. Often doctors aren't concerned unless tests are REALLY far from the "normal" values. I've learned this after calling a number of times from abnormal labs.

I wouldn't get to worried if your dr. saw the results and didn't mention them. I sometimes bring my blood work to my regular doctor and have him look it over too. You might try that too if you're concerned.

Worry is my number one symptom... I can't not worry now I think I have some blood disorder that's going to give me a stroke

my numbers have been like yours Ahodge. and my doctor said that it was nothing to worry about as they were barely out of range.

as a poster above said, the numbers fluctuate quite a bit. I get blood draws every week and each week they're a bit different.

I think you're going to be fine and i'll bet tht your numbers come back within the limits on your next draw.

If you're really concerned, put a call in to your doctor so that he/she can put your mind at ease....

BTW, I tend to worry abt. any little abnormality too...so i understand your concern.

best!

Polycythemia Vera (pV) comes to mind. However 1 test would not draw that conclusion.

This statement by you "my car has an exhaust leak I can't afford to fix so I have been driving with the windows up in the cold weather, I've been going out more around more smokers..is a concern.

Smoking can contribute to PV. Car exhaust? Come on why not crank the heat and lower the windows? that alone could kill you.

PV is not so common and there is secondary PV. Pilots, high altitude living, contribute to PV.

I'm at the opposite ends compared to you. I have high Hemoglobin, and low Hematocrit. But after a few total rbc's nuclear blood tests PV was ruled out.

But lyme and friends can also cause major blood problems.

Is this the first time your blood levels are changed? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. This could be just from the Flagyl and if so, when you get off the Flagyl, more than likely your blood levels will even out and go back to normal as well.

Also, 1.5 and .5 over is not by much at all.

This coming from someone who has a blood disorder and has messed up blood counts since I was 12 years old. So I know how you feel, but I definitely wouldn't worrry if it is the first time your blood levels have been this way and especially if they just changed with starting a new/different medicine.

Yeah it's the first time those numbers have ever been out of range...

Thank you to all for helping ease my mind a little bit... I'm going to call Monday and see what the dr say I'm sure nothing since everytimr he's concerned he leaves a note to retest.
