So I did a tissue cleanse thru bowel management cleanse a few months back and part of the regimen was to take Niacin (the flushing kind) because it's said to help get stuff (toxins?) circulating out of the tissues and move them closer to getting out thru the bowels. (sorry can't be more specific at the moment with more technical terms, relying on memory right now).

I still take it and I notice every time i take it on an empty stomach it flushes my head, face, neck, shoulders, upper back and upper chest, very red and blotchy, but then the flushing stops EXCEPT for in my elbows and knee joints, and even in my finger joints.

Does anyone have any knowledge on niacin and why it would visibly flush just certain parts of the body, especially the joints? Lyme related toxins maybe? I'm stumped.

My bet is you are just plain old weird!

Actually, quite interesting situation.

I have no scientific answers.... but my guess would be it may be harder and also take longer for the niacin to reach the "joints" ... more so than general surfaces of the skin.

It could be bone, tendons, etc are blocking the direct routes to and exiting the joints.... or the toxins are buried with better "cover" than if just exiting skin layers.

Again, just a theory... a guess at best.

My x took niacin (can't remember why) and he didn't have Lyme or co's. He flushed terribly. Every time he took it. I'm kinda curious to know what causes this as well, as I've been hesitant to take it for that reason.

Interesting, maybe you could find someone who has reported on research to tell you.

It is possible it breaks biofilm and hits whatever is there causing the reaction to stay heated in the fluids of the joints...Just guessing....There is some research on this aspect of it.

Search--Niacin as a acid can break biofilm.

If you find out anything let us know...

I started niacin recently and I am in the process of increasing the dose (up to 300 mg now) daily. I really like the positive effects; I wrote about it recently -- some of this topic may answer part of your questions:

Also, Wallace is taking 400 pounds of this stuff daily, you may want to see his topics.

Good to know that you shouldn't use it during menstration! Oops! Lol.

I also read somewhere that you should always always stay below 600 mg. (don't quote me, again relying on memory which sometimes is scary.) The reason was that it can be hard on the liver.

The flushing occurs in my joints and you can visibly see the flushing on the skin surface. However, I'm only taking a 50 mg pill on empty stomach. If i take it on full tummy..no flush.

I will ask my lyme doc about it and check it out. I will say this though...a GREAT detox system can be found in the book "Tissue Cleansing through Bowel Management"

I am a tiny tiny thing and didn't have solid foods for 5 days, got a lot of gunk out.

Will repost if i find out any good info on niacin! thanks guys!

The flush is a good thing.

The capillaries are opening up and detoxing toxins more efficiently.

Just go slow with it like anything else and you can even work up to large amounts if you feel the need (or still get flush reaction)

But it is a good thing. Don't freak out or take antihistamine.

my wife took niacin and it seemed to wash everything in her body, she got worse in her symptoms Niacin is pretty strong and it can get results really quick Ithink it cleans the body. I am sure of that. and it makes you go to the bathroom quick.

Niacin flush shows toxins being released.

It's important to get them OUT of the body--sauna, binders, etc.

Best,

Cass A
