Hi Everyone-

I've used whey protein/magnesium/and Vitamin D for the cramping/lack of stamina/"dying to be massaged" feeling in my legs. I just started taking Cortef which has DRAMATICALLY INCREASED MY MENTAL ENERGY/DRIVE (like a miracle). Unfortunately, it's increased the cramping pain/stamina issues in my legs.

1) Aside from Seekhelp and me, does anyone else on this board have this same type of feeling in their legs?

2) Anyone found (aside from abx) anything that really helps?

3) Anyone know why Cortef might increase the stamina/cramping issue with my legs??

Thanks so much for any help/guidance....

Yeah, I'd do anything to find out what causes that leg issue. It's my nightmare. [Frown]

Bart. can manifest as cramped calve muscles. I was able to alleviate it from my legs with rife using bart. freq. but still have some bart symptoms in other parts of my body that hasn't totally cleared out yet.
Not sure if you have the same issues but I would have times that I would wake up in the middle of the night and hit my calves with my fist or get up and walk around or massage them to stop the cramping. Do you have any other bart symptoms?

Yes. I have it too.

It is currently one of my worst symptoms.

If this only started to happen at the exact same time you started taking Cortef, this won't apply to you, and I have no ideas, sorry.

I have the same problem. I had to hit my calves to stop cramps so painful they made me scream. I have pain in the soles of my feet so bad I waddle. I assumed it was Bart, even though I have no other Bart symptoms and none of those characteristic purple stretch marks it causes.

I also thought it may be an electrolyte imbalance and took extra Magnesium for that.

Surprise! It was very bad varicose veins, with so much blood pooling in my legs and feet and too much pressure being put on them. Ultrasound by a vascular surgeon showed zero flow back up to my heart due to failed valves.

The vascular specialist told me this also is why I almost faint when standing for a long time....it was not OI as I'd thought. I always wondered how I could have OI with high blood pressure!

So, if you have those big blue bulging veins, swollen ankles, pain, cramps or heaviness in the legs, don't just assume it's Lyme related. I keep forgetting that just because I have Lyme does not mean I can't get other things wrong with me too, and this vein problem runs in my family.

I am having both lazer EVLT and microphlebectomy vein removal this week on the worst leg, with the other leg to follow as soon as I can stand it.

i don't have the cramps or foot pain as severe as klutzo, sole pain is noticeable in the a.m.'s.

my legs are mostly achy with twitching. the muscles are soooo tight people think i'm really fit when really my muscles are so wound up they feel like rocks (and tender to pinpointed pressure)

I've never taken Cortef yet. going after lyme first.

Klutzo,

"So, if you have those big blue bulging veins, swollen ankles, pain, cramps or heaviness in the legs, don't just assume it's Lyme related."

Suppose a person has all these symptoms, but with no bulging veins? My veins, when you can see them, when my lower legs aren't sponged full of H2O, are pretty normal looking?

The cramps in my legs are like you describe. Terrible. The muscles just lock up. And sometimes it's both opposing muscles, the calf and shin muscles, each locking and pulling the foot in different directions. My foot ends up looking like a claw. LIke bird talons. The pain is brutal.

But I have assumed it was TBI related, one or more of the co-infections. How does a patient figure out if the veins are damaged?

What kind of doc makes this call (I'm assuming that another doc sent you to the vascular surgeon)?

And are there any remedies other than surgery?

I'm so sorry you have to suffer this symptom. I know how bad it can be.

Thank you.

energy, I found cordyceps 800mg 2x/day to be magic!

oh, forgot that I doubled the cordyceps when I was really down.

pain and tightness in legs, better after light weight resistance exercise. seriously. you must exercise 20-30 min is enough. I know it seems impossible when you feel soo sick but it really does
work miracles!

You all are so incredibly kind and helpful...Thank you so much for your replies....

I don't have bart but thanks so much for the help...

Actually, I think I may have figured out what's going on....I started reading extensively about people who started steroids (which I did with Cortef even at a very low dose) and their legs from their hips down would hurt.....These were other "non-lyme" people.....So, apparently my reaction is not isolated by any means....

Also, when I was reading about the "side effects" it discussed that Cortef can cause a loss of calcium....

I have noticed if my calcium, mag, or vitamin D gets low then my legs will start to throb...So, I'm slowly tapering off the Cortef and adding back in calcium (which I hadn't been taking)....it's helping soooooooooooo much....

Thanks so much to all of you smart and kind people for your help...it's so nice not to feel alone in this fight....

Tclimb, I'll keep the Cordyceps in mind...
