Forgive me, I'm new to Lyme. Diagnosed via Western Blot in August 2010, per my LLMD I probably contracted in April or May 2010 based on the lab results. Did 21 days of Doxy, followed by 21 days of Erithomyacin per my family dr, before seeing my LLMD. LLMD put me on 60 days of cefuroxime axetil 500 mg x 2 daily, and added Azithromycin 500 mg x 1 daily for the last 30 days of this regimin, plus major probiotics. I already take 1000-2000 gms of Vitamin C daily. I'm 1/2 through the second 30 days, which is the double meds. Three days ago my throat started really hurting, my fatigue significantly increased, and I lost my voice. The last two days, the throat pain has gotten extremely bad, I am coughing from post nasal drip, and I have no voice, and no energy. As in sleeping 6 hours, up for 2, repeat. I should also mention I've been on daily allergy meds since last January.
With being on these meds, I wouldn't think I would be able to catch anything. Is this a Herx reaction? My husband looked at my mouth and throat and said it looked really red and raw, but saw no white patches anywhere....and I've had no yeast problems anywhere else, so I think I've pretty much ruled that out as a problem. So.....am I sick? Other than the lyme? If so, do I see my family doc, or my LLMD? I know you guys aren't MD's, but you all surely know much more than I do about lyme at this point. Any help at all will be much appreciated.....thanks!

Yes, you could have caught a cold. Colds are viruses and abx (antibiotics) have no effect on them.
Be sure to take those probiotics at least two hours away from any of the abx... or the abx will cancel them out.
So.. could be a herx .. could be a cold.

I started ABX almost 4 weeks ago and I caught a cold that was going around. I thought it was a herx but i ended up with a sinus infection and sore throat, my friend caught the same thing.
So I think it is possible to catch a cold and herx at the same time...so hard to know what is what. Feel better and Welcome Posted by deazinn (Member # 29011) on :
Yep, finally went to my fam doc's on Saturday, I have a sinus infection and a bad case of bronchitis just short of going into pneumonia. They took me off my allergy meds, put me on a 9 day pred taper and an inhaler so I could breathe. Today, I'm actually starting to feel a little better. Yuck.

Wait is that with steroids?? I know some inhalers have it.
Well if you are feeling better I'm glad but I hope it doesn't affect your lyme situation!
If you have bronchitis/pneumonia I would hope the abx you're on would help with that!

I battled bronchitis a couple of weeks back. I was afraid to do prednisone because I'm not sure if I have LD or not.
Anyway, I was determined to get rid of it. I took loads of garlic, tumeric, fish oil, vit D, and zinc.
I also bought Hylands homeopathic bronchial cough and took those. I have a nebulizer, so I did that too.
It's the first time I've ever gotten rid of bronchitis without resorting to steroids.
