Ok after reading the rate your doctor post I have a question. If a doctor is in a private practice and has basically refused to treat you, refused to try to diagnose you, just loads you up on meds and sends you on your way who do I report it to?
The medical board? Do they actually do anything? I mean as I posted in the other thread the PCP in question had his privledges revoked from the local hospital (where he use to be cheif of staff) for quality of care). So the medical board already knows he's scum.
I don't have enough of a claim to sue him because I'm not fatally ill but he refused to even try to diagnose me with anything. He is condicending...I wouldn't take my dog there (if I had a dog, lol).
So my question is do I report it to the medical board about his quality/lack of care and will they do anything about it.
I mean this is beyond being dismissed like I have been from other doctors, way beyond that. I mean he just refused to do anything. Said he wouldn't even try to diagnose me until he had my medical records so he could see what other doctors had already looked at.
At this point I already knew it was Lyme but my husband was telling him to figure something out because he didn't believe I was in pain-merely a drug addict and that's how he treated me.
I hate to see other patients, truly sick, be ignored by him because of his arrogance. There's so much more. But his quality/lack of care goes way beyond breaking the hypocratic (sp?) oath. I don't even think he's read that thing, lol.

Hmm. If it was just refusing to treat you for Lyme...I'd think the medical board would likely defend his actions.

Wait, did he say he "wouldn't even try to diagnose me until he had my medical records..." That does not sound too unreasonable to me.
That says he didn't "refuse" to diagnose or treat you. It says he needs your background information before he can do so.
To my ear anyway...

I have seen over 24 Doctors and ID specialist over the last 7 months and all of them have flat out refused to treat me on any level. They all say the same thing they do not treat lyme. They also have no idea who to refer me to or what my next step should be. I am in the central Florida are and around here this is the norm . I went to the head of ID that over sees all of the Florida Hospitals hospitals and she told me that she did not know how to treat lyme and did not want me to sue her if things went bad.This is the person that is in charge of over numerous hospital's ID departments. I wish I could tell you that what you experienced was a rarity but I see it every time I seek care.

Basically they know there is a controversy and that lyme is complicated to treat. And if it is late stage, it might not be curable. So, they opt out, one way or another, assuming they are just one doctor and there are plenty more out there for you to see. But since nearly all of them are like this, you could be on the doctor pass-the-hot potato- rounds forever.
This is going to continue to happen until the climate changes to make it safe to treat lyme patients.

- The medical board WANTS your doctor to ignore lyme. State medical boards follow the IDSA. The IDSA ignores lyme and other TBD. Period.
This is what patients are labeled with who fight: Munchausen
Get well. Then you can be an advocate. Until then, you don't need any more labels in your file. By reporting your doctor, you will find it very hard to EVER get treatment again, for anything.
I know it's not right but it's important to know when to keep your mouth shut and just move along. You have a choice to find another doctor - or at least to not hire those whom you've come to determine as ignorant in this field.
If you fight a battle over this, your LLMD will be dragged into it and that can ruin many lives.
Work with the LDA and other advocacy groups to change things from another perspective that won't put your medical care in jeopardy as will "reporting" your doctor for following standard IDSA procedures.

Why should a doctor have to treat you? I'm not saying the guy's not scum, but shouldn't he have some free will? What if he doesn't think he can help you? Then I think it would only be fair of him to refuse to treat you. I'd just look for a better doc if I were you.

I know it's been a couple days.
NOT THE LYME. Just in general. He refused to listen to me at all. Failure to treat and diagnose is against what doctors are supposed to do.
Fibro, RA, anything. My husband told him to find SOMETHING that was wrong with me. He was like uh huh and would just walk out.
When I told him I hadn't been tested for anything he was just like uh huh...
Not the Lyme-I knew he wouldn't treat the Lyme-never asked him to.
But my husband was trying to get him to help me with my pain so he was trying to tell him to diagnose me with SOMETHING, run some kind of test. My heart rate would be 140 when I went in there. And he's just like ehh I don't know.
He has a complete disregard for his patients. I've even heard the same from other patients who DON'T have Lyme.
And this has nothing to do with the Lyme-At all.

Sorry for your experience. You've been given some good advice here. Some doctors are just arrogant and a waste of our time.
