I've already tested positive for Lyme and have been treating for about 3 months (no progress whatsoever). My LLMD has me set up for a SPECT scan. I don't really get the point of it, what does it accomplish? Why even get one done?
I'm aware of what a SPECT scan does. But, it doesn't really effect how you treat Lyme does it?

Some LLMD's will use an abnormal SPECT as an indicator to use IV rather than oral meds.

can help with insurance, maybe?

I agree with seibertneuuolyme and onbam -- I have been on 6mo of orals and recently had a spect scan that revealed some abnormal results so my LLMD is putting me on a more aggressive treatment in jan (either shots or iv).

SPECTS can also be used to monitor progress. Despite your lack of improvement, your LLMD would want to have a baseline reading so that if yours is abnormal and you do begin to feel better, a follow up SPECT should show improvement as well.
My LLMD plans on repeating my abnormal scan down the road.
Hypoperfusion is reversible with Lyme, so you know.

its used as a baseline and can support insurance if yours is abnormal, BUT like me I had mine at a facility that wasnt used to doing them my LLMD was shocked it read normal..said he would almost be certain it would be abnormal if i had it done at a facility that knew what they were doing and used to reading them.....therefore can now be used against me for insurance and disibilty purposes.........
