Why would these be taken together? I just called my Dr's office, they said that Prilosec helps Cipro to work better. Is this true? This is the first I'm hearing about this combo, and I wasn't able to find any info on it through Google and such..... Anyone?

I think Prilosec creates more problems than it solves. I won't ingest it again.

Hey Lymeboy, My LLMD also had me take a proton pump inhibitor, but she explained that it helped minimize the negative effects on the gut.
From what I understand by taking Cipro with Prilosec (or any proton pump inhibitor/receptor blocker) you increase the amount of Cipro that actually enters into your bloodstream which lowers the amount that is left in your intestines. The Prilosec also helps your stomach defend itself against the negative side effects of taking Cipro.
here is a link to an interesting research article where the researcher is filing for a patent.
