USC researcher expands understanding of marijuana's health impact

http://dailyme.com/story/2010120200001100/usc-researcher-expands-understanding-marijuanas-health.html

excerpt-

Dec. 02--Chemical compounds in marijuana can suppress the body's immune functions -- potentially speeding the growth of some cancers but possibly helping in the fight against arthritis, multiple sclerosis or allergies.

-

Conversely, cannabinoids might be a new tool for doctors to treat arthritis and multiple sclerosis. In those auto-immune diseases, your immune system goes into overdrive, destroying healthy cells.

By suppressing immune response, cannabinoids could lessen the severity of those diseases. It also could help people battle allergies and fight transplant rejection, Nagarkatti said.

------

Seems it may be negative for some cancers but positive for auto-immune diseases.

This research was done in South Carolina... home of the synthetic weed discovery. (LOL)

I wonder if the synthetic weed (aka K2 or the Spice - not for human consumption - of course) would work the same way? It's still legal here.

So... does it suppress your immune system then? Like a steroid?

Does it help with arthritis and MS because it helps with inflammation?

Would medicinal marijuana be helpful for a Lyme patient by helping with auto-immune issues, or would it just let the bugs thrive more because of a suppressed immune system?

I was indulging a little at the end of last year and beginning of this year. The benefit was that it helped me relax and calm some of the pain I was dealing with.

Unfortunately, the chest-wall inflammation I was dealing with kept getting worse. When I couldn't handle it anymore, I gave it up.

I have tried a very strong version of fake weed, rapid heartbeat, couldnt walk strait, and very intoxicated... It was NOT theraputic or "fun" more like scary, almost thought i was going to die.

got some of the real stuff last night, good times, good times. Nothing like the fake stuff. don't try the fake stuff.
It didn't really releave my muscle aches but they weren't really as noticible because I was not focusing on them, also felt much more relaxed, happy, etc.
