I had to tell you about a couple of things I received for Christmas. I got a bag from Whole Foods with samples of various products my nieces picked out for me. One was a bottle of herbal water made by Ayala, and has Ginger and Lemon Peel essence. My one niece said that it would help calm her stomach, and since I was a little nauseated that day, I decided to try some.

I put a couple of ounces in a glass and WOW. Within seconds, maybe a minute, I started herxing! Now I have to say that many things make me herx, and my herxes are very distinctive. I have a neurologic reaction where my eyes start closing up, my brain gets groggy, and I end up just having to go to sleep. As a result I spent the next 2-3 hours on the sofa and missed part of the evening at my brother's house.

Well I tried some more the next day, and the same thing happened. I plan on buying some more, but the WF closest to me didn't carry it, so I have to go to another one to get it.

The other thing they got for me is a granola looking mix call Chia Ginger by Living Intentions. It says it's enhanced with quinoa sprouts, amaranth sprouts, pumpkin sprouts, and wild hawthorn berry. It says it's gluten free, dairy free, nut free and raw. Well, yesterday I decided to open it up and try a little. I was a little tentative and just put a few little pieces in my mouth to taste it (I'm not a big granola person), and I started herxing again! I mean, it was really a strong herx and wiped me out for the rest of the day. I didn't have more than a teaspoonful at most. In fact I'm sure it was less. The herx was so strong that I still felt bad today, and I've been feeling pretty good recently on my mostly drug protocol.

I just tried another very small piece today, and again, my eyes started drooping very quickly.

I'm on some pretty powerful meds, Malarone, Flagyl, roxithromycin (azithromycin cousin), and artemesinin, so to have such a strong reaction to these things is rather amazing. In the past I've had strong responses to herbs, like ginger, lemon oil, turmeric, etc, but I was shocked to have such strong reactions to such small amounts of these things. Really, the piece I just ate was only the size of a pea.

I know I might be kind of unusual in my response, but I thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone else wanted to try it and report back if it does anything for you. I'd really like to hear if it does anything for the rest of you.

Happy New Years.

I've passed out just from a taste of something - more than once. It just takes your mouth telling your brain that something is not going to work.

On that granola mix, even a tiny bit of GINGER can be very strong - too strong for dysfunctional systems send too many false "alarm" readings to our brains. Just a tiny bit of ginger and my ears literally steam and my head will nearly spin around. I can take Ginger capsules, but I can't eat it at all.

As for that water, if it was carbonated, that could explain a lot. Carbonated water is not good for anyone with leaky gut (as most lyme patients have). I've become very ill with a bit of fizzy water.

Well, this is a case where the thought really was sweet. If asked how you enjoyed them, you might focus on the uniqueness of the gift and the special thoughts.

You can also add that granola to other foods and it won't be so strong as if straight.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who's reacted strongly from a taste of something, but I'm not sure it means that it's not going to work. I wish I knew for sure. I've always thought that it was an indication that my mouth is loaded with the bad guys and they're getting killed on contact. Not a pretty picture I know, but it IS one of the things I've considered a possibility.

The water was not carbonated, and according to the packaging, there's no oil of any kind in the granola mix. I have to say that it didn't taste rancid at all. But there are a lot more ingredients in it than what I listed before. According to the ingredient list it has:

organic buckwheat sprouts, local raw blackberry honey, organic currants, organic coconut, raw brown rice bran and germ (grain free) organic sunflower sprouts, organic dates, organic pumpkin sprouts, organic fresh ginger, organic cinnamon, wild chia seeds, organic freeze dried quinoa sprouts, organic freeze dried amaranth sprouts, Himalayan crystal salt, organic nutmeg, and wild hawthorne berry powder.

I have to say that it contains lots of natural things that have reported antimicrobial qualities. Honey, ginger, cinnamon, and coconut are all known to have antimicrobial activity. I don't know how much it cost, but at this rate, this 9oz bag is going to last me quite a while.

The seeds have natural oils. I'm concerned about sprouts so be sure to check the expiration date and keep in the fridge.

Nutmeg can cause strong reactions, too.

The sprouts are all dried out. Truly. The mix is dry and crunchy, just like granola. Expiration date is June 9, 2011 at room temp.
