Has anyone tried this protocol with success? If so, which herbs/capsules did you take? I'm on the Coptis, A13, and Circulation P and am trying to use the Allicin (but it really does cause me to smell terribly like garlic!). I've found the Allicin to work well, and my LLMD says it's the only oral "antibiotic" that will cross the blood brain barrier. Wondering if anyone has had good experiences with the protocol -- with or without the Allicin.

When I could afford it, I did VERY well for a few months at two different times. Now, I do manage to keep a bottle of the allicin on hand and it will offset a cold coming on.

While this is not inexpensive, I think it is well worth it but I wasted so much money on NDs who THOUGHT they knew all about lyme but did not. There are no LLMDs in my state and, thankfully, now we do have a couple ILADS educated LL NDs (but too late for me) - I was nearly broke by the time I found this but manage a few months a couple different times over a couple years.

Note, although starting slowly is always good, once up to optimum dose, for ALLICIN, that dose goes by WEIGHT of patient. So, some may required twice the normal amount. Hepapro has detail.

This protocol - and others - are listed mid-way in this thread.
You probably have read the book but, if not, it's very important to read the book and their website is nice for study.

I've tried everything and I have to say that I think this is the very best of all complementary protocols I've done. I just wish I had found it much sooner. It does need to be the full complement/protocol. Allicin, alone, will not be enough.

You also may need to take allicin not too close to bedtime and the Coptis can take over during sleep. Coptis is "cooling" and not a excitatory as Allicin (a "hot" herb that is stimulating).

The Hepapro HerbSom is wonderful for helping with sleep, though.

The AI #3 and Circulation P are very important with this (but the AI#3 stops after the herx part is over). The HH capsules and the Coptis also improved results for me. However, a few months was not enough time for me. One should expect to do this at least 6 months to a a year - or longer, depending upon their individual case.

Rotation to the non-garlic protocol can be done for short times when you may not want to smell like garlic. But, I did not find the alternative one to be as effective. I think it's best to use that as for just a break or in rotation now and then.

Along the way, various support measure can be added for an individual's needs. For the non-lyme/TBD support, that can be purchased elsewhere for usually better prices. Just be sure the quality is as good. I have never found ANY allicin to be as good as Hepapro.

Although, some here like the BioPure Freeze Dried Garlic (but I did not find that as effective).

Be sure that the basic protocol is followed and only trade out things like sleep or adrenal support if you choose other brands.

Topic: How to find an ILADS-educated lyme literate (LL) professionals in these areas:

Naturopathic doctor (ND); Acupuncturist (L. Ac.), a doctor of Oriental Medicine (O.M.D.), or a doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine (D.Ay.), certified herbalists or nutritionists, . . .

. . . Holistic MDs, and also Doctors of Osteopath (DO) and Doctors of Chiropractic (DC), etc.

Includes many professional links, articles and books on complementary / integrative methods - & RIFE links -- all by LL authors.

Also included are basic links explaining the principles of herbal medicine.

Lyme Disease and Modern Chinese Medicine - by Dr. QingCai Zhang, MD & Yale Zhang

web site: try www.sinomedresearch.org and use "clinic" and then "clinic" for the passwords or call Hepapro through www.hepapro.com

============================

There have been many past threads on this topic. You can search the archives - in the subject line of the medical forum - for both "Hepapro" and for "Zhang"

Keep in mind, though, that very often patients are mixing and matching and - by doing that - not giving it a true test. Most do not stick with it as directed.

Some LLMD also incorporate antibiotics with this but the LLMD would have the knowledge to do that. I see so many patients coming up with all kinds of adjustments on their own and then the protocol is not really the protocol at all. So, that has to be kept in mind with trying to determine others' track records and experiences.

And, I must say that the garlic smell puts off many. Chlorophyll can help but it may not help as much as we'd like. I never smell garlic myself when I take it but others sure can smell me a block away. But, I really don't have to go out, or if one needs to make some excuse, just say you spilled garlic juice at lunch. Or feed all around you hummus with lots of garlic, etc.

Smelling strong is not nearly as bad as having lyme forever.

Interesting, why was the Hepro more effective?! Can you explain this for me please [Smile] ?

Did you try Buhner and Cowden too, did you feel it was as effective as Zhang?

The Hepapro version (created by Dr. Zhang) is not really garlic. Instead, it is just the chemical in garlic (Allicin (well, actually, it's precursor, Allitride, which is more stable outside the body)) that's in the capsules. So, when you take them, it feels like eating 1000 garlic cloves.

I didn't know that. I thought it's real garlic...
Any success stories with that?

Energyman, it is FROM real garlic, it's not JUST the sum of the whole dried garlic bulb but, rather, a VERY concentrated, most effective form of the garlic extract, called Allitridi - from Allium sativa Bulb (garlic).

It's essential to read the book for a detailed description. Also see the website, link is above with the book link.
