My doctor wants me to start minocycline today, Ihave tried practically every oral abx. and iV Rocephin. I have been off abx. for 5 weeks and feeling very bad. I was last on amixicillin and biaxcin and had some good results with it but then started to slip. He wants to try and zap the bugs with the minocycline and says I might herx and then feel better. I hope so because I am at my wits end. I haven't felt this bad in a while. Something has to give me hope! Any minocycline experiences out there and did you take it alone or with another abx.? Thanks! Hi Laurie. I was using Mino along with Diflucan and Mepron on a pulsed schedule. It has good brain/tissue penetration. I'm not sure that it was any more useful than doxy but I didn't have very many side effects from it.
If you have the right strain, then supposedly it can be very effective. It's worth a shot.
It can cause dizziness and nausea, especially in women. I'm not a woman. However, meclizine taken concurrently may help side effects if they develop.

Try and start low and slow.
It can cause dizziness. Daughter was only taking 50mg at one time as that is all she could tolerate.
Now that she has stopped the Mino, I see that the 50mg was doing something to treat the infections.

I hated Mino. I had to go off of it because it made me too dizzy, my ears hurt like crazy, and balance off. Also gave me the runs.
But I heard it works great for some people so I guess it's trial and error. Start it slowly though.. and if you feel more dizzy than usual it will only get worse - at least I could never get used to it.

- Sorry that I can't custom tailor my reply but so be sure to look at a thread regarding support measures that may help.
Mino does make some dizzy with other inner/middle ear effects. Some do just fine, even much better with it. There seems no predicting but, it's best to avoid anything else that is hard on the liver or the kidneys - and have excellent support.

1) have you been on combination antibiotics (ie like Biaxin and Flagyl, or Omnicef or Ceftin plus Biaxin, for example?) Many LLMD's think you can't get rid of stubborn Lyme without treating it's several forms with multiple drugs at once.
2) I had trouble with minocycline at first, and tried to take it two or three times. It always made me too dizzy. Then someone on Lymenet suggested starting with a week of low doses- like 50 mg, or a regular capsule split in half, before raising the dosage to a regular 100 mg dose.
This worked very well for me- the dizziness was very minor and eventually not a problem at all.
