- I know you asked me by PM about steroids and that you have all those links. I say this so that others know you've got that information.
Without looking up the Rx you mention to see if it is a steroid . . .
Never stop ANY asthma medication without first consulting your doctor &/or LLMD.
And discuss ALL asthma medications with your LLMD. Never start a new asthma medication without first consulting your LLMD.
If a new patient is currently taking an asthma medicine that is a steroid, and this is before seeing a LLMD, still, do not stop something that you've been taking. Corticosteroids are contraindicated with lyme, however, it can be very dangerous to stop this on one's one without guidance from a LLMD for exactly how to do that and what other Rx to consider.
In some cases, along with antibiotics to control lyme, certain inhalers will still be used for asthma but that is a case-by-case situation.
As I recall, you are still trying to find a LLMD. If you make an appointment and that appointment is a ways off, you might ask to talk to the physician's assistant for a minute regarding this matter to see if there are any suggestions for the time being until you get in to see the LLMD.
Again: NEVER STOP ANY ASHTMA MEDICATION that you've been on steadily and rely upon without first consulting medical experts. This could be dangerous and even result in death.
If a decision is made to go off of a particular steroid Rx, there are certain ways that must be done, usually tapering off slowly - but also carefully adding in a replacement. -

albuterol is NOT a steroid. The inhaled steroid inhalers like Flovent, advair are. However, the amount of steroid in them is very very small. If it is a choice of breathing and not breathing , well you know the answer. I have had to take them when I need them and I don't even think about it. Please stay on them until you see your doctor.
