Just wonder if you can still do your normal dental work, such as filling, routine cleaning, during active infections, especially with a compromised immune system?
Thanks.

Are you going to have your tooth filled with a resin-based compound or amalgam?
I would avoid metals and if you are having dental work, even a cleaning with amalgams already in place, you are risking more mercury release than the normal amount from chewing, routine brushing and eating.
Thursday, I had 1/2 my amalgams relpaced (right side) and I got a fever(which for me is 98 degrees) and have been sick (sore throat, nasal drip) for 2 days now. I think having teeth opened up can cause leeching of toxins... I have had 2 documented bone infections (5+ days hospitalization) in my lower jaw... which probably lay dormant, but not gone.
Is your WBC down? When my son's was very low, I canceled his routine dental exam because I didn't want to take the risk of infection.
So many things to consider... I hope something I said of my decisions and considerations helped you in some way.

- Q: still do your normal dental work, such as filling, routine cleaning, during active infections, especially with a compromised immune system?
Absolutely. Dental decay, accumulated plaque and gum disease can lead to heart disease so it's very important to have excellent care for the mouth.
Dental cleanings at least every six months are vital and best to get every 3 months if you teeth seem to collect a lot of plaque despite the best efforts to clean.
A WaterPik is a good tool as is an electric toothbrush.
Echo to lymemom: If you get fillings, find a biological dentist who does not use amalgum.
Search: "Hal Huggins" - and find his books.
Also, in numbing shots: tell the dentist to write on your chart: No EPI (ephinephrine) -

Routine cleanings are a must with us. Not getting your teeth cleaned and xray/examined will lead to having more bacteria in your body that can have adverse effects on your health no mattter what a person is going through.
All dental materials should not have any adverse reactions to your body.
As far as anesthetics, if you've never had any heart racing effect from any Lidocaine, then all should be fine. If you react to a faster heart rate, then ask for a non Epi type. A non Epi type doesn't numb as strongly as the regular either.. some people like that fact.
Stress in any situation will bring on ickier feelings with us, so try and not be stressed about any dental work.
After being in dentistry for over 24yrs now, and have lyme, I have never found any procedure to make me 'worse'... and I go every 6 months for cleanings and ck ups.
White fillings are plastic with many steps of bonding agents and etchants, so realize you will have plastic resin for fillings. There are no long term studies yet on the effects of plastic in our mouths.

YES!!! To NOT do so would be bad for your oral and general health. Unclean teeth can breed bacteria.

I just had a decaying tooth fixed and was glad I could get it done when I was having a break between drugs. I had about a month off after Mepron and went on rifampin a couple of days after the work. The tooth seems fine.

Totally fine.

My daughter was in bed for 4 days after having 2 fillings done.
I have found that any "assault" on the body--dental work, surgery, respiratory infections--can exacerbate symptoms and even send you into a downward spiral.
My daughter needs to get teeth extracted, but we have to wait til she is stronger. LLMD said this surgery would not be good for her at this time.
So yes, dental work is vital to general health, just know that you might have to take it easy for a few days.

fillings with mercury?
Posted by AlanaSuzanne (Member # 25882) on :
Lymetoo if you're asking me, no--no way are the fillings mercury. Way before Lyme and cos entered our lives I made sure all fillings were resin for my kids.
Me, well I have silver fillings as old as, well let's just say decades old.
