Hi all I know they say Cardio is bad while doing lyme treatment but on Monday I went to the gym and jog for lil awhile then did weights. Besides being out of shape I was fine.

So why do they say we cant do cardio??

Should I not do it? Will I drop dead on the treadmill?

From what I understand, exercise is very important to restart the immune system.

Muscle building weights are important to help the muscle atrophy from the illness.

Cardio can stress the heart.

That said, my husband does the eliptical for 30+ minutes and feels great afterward.

These exercise precautions are written for the very ill. We need to know our own health limits and take an individualized approach.

The famed Dr. B's protocol suggests that cardio reduces T-Cell activity formuch longer than weight training/non-cardio. However, he also says raising the core temp kills the ketes. So I'm with you tricia, I feel MUCH better when I am exercising regularly, and historcally I am a cardio guy, not w weight guy.

I don't care what negative points are posted about Lyme and exercise I am doing it until I am unable.

Since the the beginning of January I have been able to resume my Chalene Extreme exercise program (an intense combo or cardio/weights).

I feel so much better by doing it.

I am underweight with a small frame to begin with, so am trying to keep my muscle tone in top notch shape so I don't look like a walking skeleton.

Osteoporosis runs in my family as well.

I am exercising to give me physical strength, keep my bones, heart, lungs as healthy as possible.

It's also good to destress and show Lyme disease who is boss.

Well, I think the problem is there are patients like me who get post-exertional malaise.

They feel worse after exercise.... much, much, worse. Worse physically, neurologically, and psycholohgically.

If you feel it's good for you, it's probably good for you.

It's detrimental for my health. So therefore, I don't do any cardio right now. And believe me, I used to mountain bike 25 miles a few days a week. It's not that I didn't exercise before.

Always remember, EVERYONE�s body�s reacts differently. In the beginning I could only take walks, and that�s all I could do when it came to exercising.

I can now do full workouts, Cardio, weights etc. I do have days that are not as good as others but, in general I can do full workouts.

Am I pain fee, not by any means� I for one truly believe we all need to exercise as much as possible.

Exercise is good but everybody have to ajust for himself.

By exercising we help body to clean more cells from the toxins ,including metals also send more blood to the cells to nurish them and send more cells that fight bacteria and to peripheral tissue any increase in temperature helps that to .

It is important for adults no metter what exercise we do to not increase heart rate more then 140 per min.

If same day after exercising ore following days you crash ore fill drained thats a sign for you to do no more than 3 times a day exercise and just weight lifting with alot of repetition .

We need to support our body with whey protein,magnesium 600mg a day at least ,D-ribose ,phosphatidyl choline,B-complex,and multivitamins.

I meant to add....I also take a steam bath after all workouts. I think saunas and steam baths are as importent as exercising.

I have Kday's reaction to exercise. It's a death sentence for me. [Frown] Obviously, I'm not in the 'norm' on Lymenet from what I read. If I could do it, I would. There's no showing Lyme 'who's the boss' or I'd be showing the hospital at times 'who is the patient.'

Not sure why Maradona said 140 but, I'm sure it's got something to do with Lyme.

I can take moderatly fast walks a few times per week, and at first I feel fine; but after 3 or 4x within the same week, it hits me. Then I have to either skip the next week, or just get maybe one walk in that week. Then back to 3 or 4x a week. Sometimes I skip 2 weeks, then its back at it.

I keep doing this because I think exercise is important at the point where I am at now. My theory is that I am stirring up toxins or dead debris that needs to be stirred up so I can rid my body of it.

Everyone has to find their own limits!

Ya according to that id be between 100-195 I am only 24. I am going to the gym tonight and i cam kind exicited to start working out again!

Every lyme patient has a unique case. But, there is one thing clear: lyme can damage the heart. Aerobic exercise during infection can damage the heart.

How much - how fast - how far - how often -- for any one of us is something that we need to discuss with our lyme educated doctors before we start a plan. Then, we need to listen to our body along the way - and pay attention to after-exercise feedback.

Also, please remember that faster, harder, farther is not always better.

Much about exercise, mitochondrial & adrenal issues, etc. is discussed in this thread. This is not at all just for those with cardiac issues (although every lyme patient has them whether they know it or not - even regarding the need for education as some symptoms can be prevented).

Lyme is draining to the adrenal glands and so is heavy cardio exercise. If you have the stamina and feel good with it, then it could be good for you.

When I was very ill, I couldn't do cardio, but lifted weights all through my illness.

Now I do pilates. I wish I had discovered it when I was sick because it's really perfect for me. I don't do any cadio, mainly because I liked pilates so much I became an instructor and get enough exercise as it is.

Someone mentioned working out to keep the weight on. I think strength training, including moderate strength training as pilates is or weight lifting will help more with keeping weight on than cardio.
