Anyone ever have bad reaction to flagyl. I have been pulsing it for a couple of weeks now per my llmd.
The past 2 days though I have been big time sick with headache, severe nausea, blood pressure through the roof ect. Kinda feels like I've been on a spinning ride at the amusement park way too long and they won't let me off.
Started taking it again on sunday and monday and tuesday were terrible. Doc said stop the flagyl as this would explain this. I don't think it's a herx because I haven't ever felt this way with a herx and generally don't herx that hard.
Reason for the post is to try to determine whether it's the flagyl or ms-contin that I am having a reaction to. (ms-contin for pain obviously).
I noticed also mon and tue morning when I woke up my lips were swollen which is definately a reaction to something. I did not take the ms-contin until later on. Seems odd that I would have a reaction to either of these meds when I took them both last week with no problems?? Any ideas?

Sounds scary!
I would go off both of them, give yourself a couple of days to get it out of your system, and then maybe take just the pain meds for a day or two and see what happens.
It sounds to me like it could be the flagyl. If so, keeping on taking it could result in damage to you so be careful.
This is just my opinion from reading other people's reactions to it. My daughter has been fine on flagyl but I know it's been a nightmare for others.

My son did fine on flagyl. But I vomited so much that I ended up in the hospital for rehydration.
It sounds like yours is a different sort of reaction, but very scary. Swollen lips doesn't sound good. Have you read the paper the pharmacy hands out with the warnings?
It could have built up in your system, so no reaction last week and this week is different.
Flagyl is a big deal herx med as it gets the bacteria when it's cystic (and it's my understanding the other meds can't do this), so if you've only been on it a few weeks then maybe you're just herxing like you've never herxed before. My son's LLMD said his flagyl and post-flagyl days would possibly be the worst days.
Pain meds can make you dizzy...

I have only been on flagyl for a few days. Yesterday I went from 500mg to 1000mg and also felt that spinning/out of it sensation (almost like I just got off a ride that had gone on too long). It did subside but I still felt out of it in the morning. The day improved though and I feel Ok now....we will see though.

Hmm... I did a 13-day run with Flagyl. Couldn't tolerate it well because of either medicine overload or it was giving me death fatigue. A couple weeks later I had a massive reaction of some kind and was having crazy vertigo.
Don't know what else to say, just wanted to share.

Flagyl is really rough stuff. I agree with stopping both meds so you can sort things out. (with dr's permission of course) You don't want to go into anaphylactic shock with either one!
If you get nausea while on flagyl, be sure to eliminate ALL FORMS of alcohol you are anywhere NEAR!
NO mouthwash containing alcohol, no aftershave containing alcohol, etc. It WILL MAKE YOU SICK!!

Thanks all for the responses. I stopped taking both the Flagyl and ms-contin tue evening. Yesterday was another rough day although not nearly as bad as mon and tue.
Finally today I felt well enough to try the ms-contin again (I guess it takes a while for flagyl to completely leave your system). Anyway, after taking the ms-contin roughly 4 hours ago I feel half decent. I need to take something or the pain will keep me on my back completely useless. I've dealt with my share of pain over the years and am usually tough in that regard but this stuff makes me whimper like a kicked puppy
Bottom line here is the Flagyl is apparently what caused the issues. Odd that the first couple of weeks I pulsed it with no problem but so be it. I don't ever want to feel like that again......WOW. I considered on numerous occasions a trip to the hospital if it had gone on any longer.
Lymetoo, I can assure you there was no alchohol anywhere in the vicinity as the doc warned me about this when he wrote the script. I do appreciate the input though as always
Guess I'll have to put Flagyl on the allergy list.

Glad you got it figured out... sounds like, anyway!!
I think you can develop an allergy to just about anything.
Glad your dr warned you about the alcohol.. some don't!! Posted by 17hens (Member # 23747) on :
This is a good thread for me to read. Thank you, Joe.
My DH just started flagyl 2 days ago and feels very, very tired and flu-ish today.
I've never taken it before so I'm no help. Now I know a bit about it and what to watch out for with him.
Thanks guys.

Joe-What is ms-contin and is it effective for your pain? I have been taking percocet for my nerve pain and starting to get concerned about liver damage from the acetominophen. I am also considering Flagyl. It sounds like it could be really toxic for some people but you dont know unless you have tried. Glad you are feeling better but I know it's too bad your body couldn't handle it Laurie

Was it generic Flagyl? I cannot take the generic form of Flagyl at all. I still herx some on the brand name Flagyl and all my symptoms can come out all at once on the second or third days.
But, after pulsing (4th week of month only) I always notice a positive difference overall, so I know it is working.
It is a powerful antibiotic that apparently many people cannot tolerate.
