Does anyone have the red pin prick dots on your skin? If so, what do you have for coinfection? I have them on my chest and arms mainly. I tested negative for coinfections. I have heard Bart and Babs but I'd like to hear from the experts!

Thank you much!

It also can be cpn ( cpnhelp.org)or small parasites.

Bartonella!!

I have them too.. got them over 20 years ago.. I think even those who don't have Lyme get them but I'm not sure. I have bart as a co..

AFTER I began treating Lyme with Doxy, Zithromax and Omnicef, I started getting little pinprick sized red dots on my chest and hips, and all of a sudden the soles of my feet started feeling really sore. This was 3 months into abx treatment.

My co-infections tests were negative, too, but my LLMD said these things were Bartonella and has now started treating me for that.

hambone

anytime you take abx's for lyme and start to knock down that infection - expect for co-infections to surface as the dominant

in your case it looks like bartonella

Is that what you suspect?

Yes. I had suspected all along because of the crazy brain issues and off the charts anxiety. Then about a month ago, the red dots and sore soles suddenly appeared.

Because of my negative co-infections tests, we weren't sure before. Now we kinda are.

You've accomplished half the battle. Isolating and identifying what you're dealing with.

Congrats

I have these as well. They are quite noticeable on my fair skin. Dr. J (DC) says bartonella. My dermatologist who I just saw a few weeks ago for a routine mole check said "I can tell right away just by looking at these red dots that you have a TBI." He did not specify which one, but I was floored that he acknowledged that. I told Dr. J (DC) and he was so impressed that this Dr. recognized it also.

Hambone,

you need a test for cpn. Doxy and azithro is the classical treatment for cpn and you reacted to it.

Posted by onbam (Member # 23758) on :

This was my very fist symptom, appearing 3 days after my bite.

+ Igm for Lyme
+IgG for bart (very low positive, 1:40)
Response to Mepron

I was tested for this last summer. It was negative.

Unless this is yet another lousy test that has a lot of false negatives.

I've got these too. I didn't notice them until i became sick, but then i really wasn't paying attention.

I thought it was related until i noticed my mother has them too. After a family friend dermatologist told me they were harmless cherry angionomas i stopped worrying about them.

I tested low positive for babesia, and negative for bartonella for what it's worth.

My First ILADS doc told me it was nothing. I haven't shown it to my most recent llmd but maybe now i will.

I have had them too for a long time. I inquired about it a long time ago and was told, like 3030, that they're cherry angiomas. And I do not have bart, just the borrelial infection.

Posted by canefan17 (Member # 22149) on :

Robin,

Babs causes cherry angiomas

But angiomas are a little different than the red bump rash Bart causes.

Posted by TerryK (Member # 8552) on :

These are called petechiae and are caused by bleeding under the skin.

I had a lot of these on my lower legs but they went away with babesia treatment.

You will find many posts abou thi in the archives.

Terry

I agree with TerryK. These are not bumps, they are red pinpricks called petechiae. I've read they are caused by Babesia.

The slightly raised red spots that look more like a blood blister, about the size of a freckle, are caused by Bartonella.

Have you looked at the rash photos on www.DrJonesKids.com?

That's not necessarily true. I was worried about petechia when i first got these spots so i did some extensive research.

Several doctors visits later i'm 100% sure they're cherry angiomas .. which in and of themselves are totally harmless.

Petechia will fade over time and tend to clump together. What i have (and what i think the op is describing) are more random and singular.

I am however interested in claims that bartonella can cause agiomas. Is there any evidence to back this up?

I have thse too. They look like zits sometimes. It is either Babs or Bart, but I'm not sure which. I have both.

Posted by jadams (Member # 28016) on :

Mine are not raised at all. They aren't bumpy or pimple like. The just look like one tiny blood vessel popped. Mine started before treatment but after I got sick so they are definitely due to lyme/coinfection.

3030- Mine are random and singular also, they are not clumped together. So this must be cherry agiomas? Not Petechia?

Posted by jadams (Member # 28016) on :

I just looked up DrJoneskids.com and the pin prick dots are common with Babesia

Posted by bcb1200 (Member # 25745) on :

Are yours small zit sized, almost pock like?

Posted by karenl (Member # 17753) on :

Hambone,

good. Do you know that also IGG means it is active in case of cpn. If your IGG is also negative, you should be ok.It normally shows up on labcorp tests.

I have red dots and no babesia.

Posted by imagine2 (Member # 3136) on :

I was covered head to toe with petechiae that faded in a few days.
My llmd said it was Babesia.

Posted by jadams (Member # 28016) on :

bcb1200- No, mine look just like someone took a tiny needle and poked me with it. Its no bigger than the tip of a pin. They are way smaller than a zit.

I have had mine for months and I keep getting more.

Posted by the3030club (Member # 21898) on :

jadams,

Without seeing them i would say they are almost certainly angiomas.

If you're still unsure i would see a dermatologist.

Posted by txgirl09 (Member # 21612) on :

i have these too. mine are like what jadams and 3030 describe. They are red, and the size of the tip of a pin. They are all over my stomach. I've had these for years, even before getting sick.

So, do Bart and Babs cause these red dots?

I stand by this. Check out the link.

I have these red dots too. I had them for years and it is normally on my torso. They would come with more frequency during the hot and humid summers and many would go away in the fall.

Once I started getting sicker and taking ABX, I noticed more than usual started to appear. Now they are on my arms as well.

I always heard it was Babesia...

I have them also, noticed before my diagnosis but after the tick bites. I believed them to be parasites as some on my abdomen look like tracks ie. 3-4 in a row....just pin prick size.

Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :

they are most certainly not just "cherry angiomas". i had one doctor just tell me they were age "spots".

i've looked at a ton of other women and nope, they don't have them.

they are from lyme and don't let any doctor tell you different. bart or babs it's lyme people...

and yes they look like someone took a red pen and went "boink, boink, boink" all over my body. some are a little larger but some are small. i have a ton of them. it's so embarrasing to wear shorts...but hey, i can't help it.

but it definitely is lyme related.

abby-do, you are right. Look up the Dr. K protocol and you get your great skin back ( six week protocol).

Posted by sbh93 (Member # 30429) on :

I know other adults with no lyme symptoms who have them, but nowhere near the amount I do. They have one here or there (aged mid-30s), whereas I have hundreds.

I have both types--the pinprick type and the slightly raised blood blister type. I have both bart and babs, have been treating for about seven months, and I only see more, not less.

I have those red dots too, LLMD told me it was from bartonella from which i tested positive.

Posted by Jamers (Member # 28016) on :

This was my original post and so far I 'think' Babesia is gone. Im now treating Bartonella and these dots are still here and look like they are getting worse. So, if I had to guess now I think probably Bart, but who knows!

Posted by randibear (Member # 11290) on :

do they go away?

Posted by Jamers (Member # 28016) on :

I think they should go away when you kill the infection that causes them.

Posted by karenl (Member # 17753) on :

Yes, they go away and the skin looks healthy
again. I like to use coconut oil to help the skin rejuvenate.

I have also those needle prick like red dots they are so so small that you really have to focus on them to se then, just a few are little larger and about 1mm. They are IN the skin. they dont pop up to outside the skin.

For me this is Babasia. They came with treatment.

The Baronella spots are much larger. Mostly they seem to be outside the skin. This may come from the incresed growth of blood vessels due to increased VEGF which is caused by bartonella.

Not everybody with bartonella has them.

Same here.

I've had them for years. What I noticed is that I would have more during the summer time when I got hot and sweaty. Most are on my torso, but can be anywhere. They are separate and individual for me.

A developed a lot more when starting treatment and since then they have not gone away, as they have done so in the past.

I tested neg for Bart and Babs, but I show signs for both. Unequivocal for Lyme too. Three other people have confirmed deer ticks attachment/bites here and they definitely have symptoms. None of these 3 showed bullseye and tested neg for Bart and Babs, and unequivocal for BB.

These are typically called petechaie and can be caused by a number of things including meds and infections. They are caused by bleeding under the skin.

Mine seemed to be associated with babesia but I can't be sure. Mine are gone now.

Certain medications
Some types of medications can result in petechiae, including:
Aspirin
Atropine (Atropen)
Carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Epitol, Tegretol, others)
Chloral hydrate (Somnote)
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Desipramine (Norpramin)
Indomethacin (Indocin)
Morphine (Avinza, Ms Contin, others)
Naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn)
Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrobid, Macrodantin)
Penicillin
Quinine (Qualaquin)

Infectious diseases
Some types of infectious diseases can cause petechiae on the skin, while others may result in petechiae on the inner surfaces of the mouth or eyelids. A variety of fungal, viral and bacterial infections can cause petechiae, including:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection
Parvovirus infection
Endocarditis
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome
Meningococcemia
Mononucleosis
Rocky Mountain spotted fever
Scarlet fever
Sepsis
Strep throat
Viral hemorrhagic fevers

Other medical conditions
Many noninfectious medical conditions also can cause petechiae. Examples include:

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
Leukemia
Infantile scurvy
Vasculitis
Vitamin K deficiency

I too just noticed these spots too. It looks like I was poked by a pin and there's a tiny dot of blood under the skin.

these just popped up after being sick this past week I have also been off abx because I have been so sick that I couldn't tolerate anything else.

Maybe it is the co infection coming out. My doc clinically diagnosed me with bart.

I haven't read all of the posts above, but here's my question.... can they be popped and scraped away? I'm wondering if that will cause them to scab and heal, and BE GONE. I'd really like to get rid of these things.

Posted by FamilyFive (Member # 37206) on :

From reading all these posts it sounds like there a a few different things people are describing.

I have cherry angiomas... the flat pinprick size red dots (torso, arms, shoulders, back) and was told they are totally normal. My 3 SIL's, husband, mother, and even my dermatologist (she showed me when I asked about them) all have them and don't have lyme and co's.

I've had many of them most of my life, far before I contracted lyme, but get more as I get older.

They don't fade if you push on them, and are like a birth mark, in that they never go away. If you prick one with a pin it will scab and just come back. They are unrelated to lyme and co's.

Posted by MichaelTampa (Member # 24868) on :

I have heard one lyme doc say she believes they are from bartonella. I'm sure that's not the common worldview, so of course that's not what your dermdoc said. I'm not convinced either way, and of course this lyme doc could be mistaken. It might just be that they are a way for your body to dispose of waste, and certain lyme treatments cause more of that to happen. It also might be that your 3 SIL's, your husband, your mother, and your dermdoc all have bartonella.
