Please help me find a neurologist in Illinois. I've just been diagnosed w lyme and have among other things: recent hysterectomy, and heart troubles. I have 2 small children whom I am struggling to care for. I have a cyst in the sinus behind my eye. My sinus doctor is trying to shrink it w/ meds. They're not working. He's not taking me seriously. I'm afraid the cyst is from lyme and it's leaking into my brain. I have a stiff neck. Is this automatically meningitis. I don't really have a headache and no fever. I'll see my sinus dr on Tuesday of this week to decide whether to take the cyst out. Is it a good idea to do sinus surgery while having these problems. The only one I can comment on is yes, a stiff neck means meningitis -
you can type any word or phrase you want in the search entry at the top of the board and read past archives - can be helpful to read what others have done about all the various symptoms -

Robin... A stiff neck doesn't always mean meningitis... A stiff neck by itself would not necessarily mean meningitis. Not at all.
from Wikipedia:
The most common symptoms of meningitis are headache and neck stiffness associated with fever, confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light (photophobia) or loud noises (phonophobia).
Sometimes, especially in small children, only nonspecific symptoms may be present, such as irritability and drowsiness. If a rash is present, it may indicate a particular cause of meningitis; for instance, meningitis caused by meningococcal bacteria may be accompanied by a characteristic rash.
Lymetoo, if you could explain - first I had sore neck and shoulders, then a very stiff neck, then full-body fibro pain. I was told by a doctor back then that was called meningitis.
25 years later, I found out I had Lyme disease. So is the stiff neck caused by Lyme called meningitis? I also think the cranial nerves are being inflamed early on and that could also hit the neck.

Bartonella causes sore, stiff neck and shoulders. Lyme can as well. I know nothing about Meningitis, but I think you're going in the right direction, seeking a LLMD. Good luck.

If you don't already have a good lyme doctor, get one. If you have one, these are questions to ask the doctor. Specialists like neurologists tend not to know about neurological symptoms that are caused by lyme, are a waste of time and energy. About the cyst in your sinus, I don't know. But the lyme doc would have a better idea of what specialists you might need, if any, beyond his/her treatment of lyme.
Lyme and the coinfections causes myriad symptoms and the only thing that usually helps is treatment for those diseases. That is why you need an experienced lyme doctor. Otherwise you just get on a frustrating merry go round of specialists.

When my Lyme symptoms became too much to handle one of the problems I had was severe pain and stiffness in my neck. It was NOT meningitis.
I had a chiro tell me it was scoliosis, which I thought was odd since I had been screened for that as a child in school and it didn't show up then, but all the sudden it was when my kids were all 18 and over?

Just looked up meningitis - says an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Inflammation of the fluid, may be caused by bacteria.
