- Eat plenty of nuts and good fats... avocados, eggs, and all kinds of nuts (except peanuts).

I've had a decrease in appetite with the illness. Losing five is ok by me, but when I do eat I feel better (healthy)so I need to force myself even to eat a banana or something.
Has anyone else had a decrease in your weight? Anorexia is common in women I heard.

not only in woman, i have anorexia too since got ill....

anorexia is a mental disorder where you think you're fat so you don't eat or purge your food (purging is a bulemic characteristic). Anorexia is an intentional effort to lose weight and becoming extremely skinny and malnourished. I can't gain weight, but I am FAR from anorexic. huge difference!
steve...i know of a lot of lyme patients that refer to themselves as lymies, whether it's as a light joke or easier than spelling out lyme patient. if you don't like it then i apologize for offending you, but come on, lets lighten up a little.

I cannot gain weight either I lost 5 pounds last week because I had the stomach flu also.
I caught an image of my face at the store yesterday, not nice.
Looking much older than my 30 years. I am 5'10" and 124 pounds. I need about 10 pounds-15 pounds of fat and muscle.

Hi hope, I like the name.
Yes, fyre is correct, it's a disorder, actually. I said it incorrectly.
I don't have the appetite since the illness. I do not purge and I never have. Yuk! I don't like getting sick either. HEEEEE!
daniel, bummer, isn't it? With summer coming I am usually even thinner because I walk a lot with my dog.
Everyone, take care. Hope you all have a good week!

Hi FYRECRACKER,
I was actually just kidding about lymies. But after reading what I wrote, I guess I sounded like I was serious.
Believe me, I could care less what anyone calls me. Thats least of my problems!!!
Just never SAY LYMES> that is a no-no!!! Posted by FYRECRACKER (Member # 28568) on :

Anorexia is the correct medical term for diminished appetite or dislike/avoidance of food. This is a physical condition. Anorexia nervosa is a mental disorder characterized by fear of becoming obese and dislike of food.
If you are skinny and have loss of appetite your doc will likely note anorexia in your chart. I just wanted to point out the differences in definition so that you won't get upset if you ever see that.
Anyways, I think DocAllegra was asking for help with losing weight?
Since I've been sick I've experienced drastic unintentional weight loss and am now experiencing weight gain. Both situations are extremely frustrating. But I must admit it is socially more difficult to deal with the weight gain.
When I was at my skinniest I looked terrible and sickly. My family members were frightened by my appearance. Yet everyone else around me, including strangers, made positive comments on my physical appearance. It was surreal.
When I started gaining weight my family members were happy. I was happy too for awhile. Then it became difficult for me to maintain a healthy weight. I started gaining more than I needed. People around me started commenting on how I was looking "pudgy" "fluffy" and "round". Now I'm overweight despite my best efforts to get back to a healthier weight.
The crazy thing is that I eat much less (portions ,fat, and calories) than I did when I was sickly thin. I avoid sugar, processed food, and eat minimal complex carbs. I am much more conscious of every bite I put into my mouth. I've not been successful in losing a pound. I just keep gaining. It is upsetting.
DocAllegra if I knew how to lose weight I'd gladly share the secret with you. It is much more difficult with these infections than it is when you are healthy. I think that our metabolisms are effected by hormone imbalances and inflammation.
I'm just trying to eat as healthy as possible to help my body heal. Once the infections are under control I hope that the weight will naturally balance itself out. We'll see.

Hi sammy, How R U today?
Gosh, I certainly know with age (50ish) is is soooooooooooooooooooo hard to lose.
I feel bad for several people, including my son, that are on meds for mental illness. This is truly a weight gain issue with them. And if folks with Lyme and mental challenges are present, man-- that's a double whammy!

I have put on a few pounds. Because I've been doing good, my appetite is good. With my temp being up, no body aches and no fatigue, I have a desire for food.
Wow, I certainly feel better when I do eat, I have more strength. But when this illness gets you, it gets you!
