Doc is very certain I have lyme, but my kidneys are in trouble so we're addressing that first. Having always been a plan-ahead person, though, I need to know what to expect.

The big picture, as you can see in my sig, is likely 20 years chronic infection. I have been deteriorating rapidly since a recent surgery.

I have a high-stress job and am starting to not manage it well. I feel confused or foggy most of the time. My vision is becoming a big issue.

Some people seem to continue their lives okay while on abx. Some appear to get much worse during treatment and need help daily.

I know everyone's experience is different. I wonder if anyone who's been around awhile can tell me if there seems to be a correlation between length of infection and reaction to treatment?

Did you plan to take time off? With the controversy going on, did you tell your boss the whole story? Did you wait to see how you reacted to treatment before talking to your boss (if you kept working)? Please share your experiences in this area and any advice is welcome.

Thank you,
sbh93

the only thing i really can say is document everything.....keep records of all your dr notes
make sure you have a LLMD with a lot of experience that can diagnose and document correctly.......

you may think you dont need to worry about these things now but you really dont know what the situation will be in 3 month 13 months 3 years etc.....especially if you may need to use short and long term disibility.....this will help in someway to protecting your income if you do need to be off work.........

I did tell my employer as it played out in work for so long everyone was wondering what was going on i was in the hospital twice so for me it would of been strange for me not to say plus I didnt know any different at the time.....and i was so relieved to get a diagnosis.....at that point i had already been off work 6 weeks...

i think if you search here there has been threads about this before were you maay get some more advise.......

i wish you luck.....

Thank you! I will try different terms and search again. I just hadn't found many before I posted.

I did tell both my supervisors when i was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease, and emailed them the youtube video of "under our skin." One of them wanted to see the video, and shared it with her husband who wanted to educate his staff at his Veterinary clinic.

I was extremely scared to explain my chronic, controversial illness to my management. However, i am protected by the union (public job), so i submitted all of my FMLA paperwork as soon as i experienced symptoms (pre-lyme tx). My employers couldn't have been more understanding. This, unfortunately, is not the norm.

Read up on FMLA, short-term disability, and wrongful termination legal issues. I consulted a lawyer friend during the process, just to keep me sane. Good luck friend.
