Do the buhner herbs have an effect on the thyroid? I've read that somewhere here but i don't remember the threads!

Hmm I haven't heard that. I am on them and also have low thyroid. In his book he talks about any possible interactions and thyroid was not mentioned, hes pretty thorough-- so I would say no, there are not interactions.

Here is a thread on Buhner's response to thyroid treatment.
I posted here a while ago about my suspicion that one of the Buhner herbs had caused my tsh to shoot up making me hypothyroid.
My thyroid has been stable for years before this.
I hadn't changed anything else in my diet, but had been adding the Buhner herbs.
I found a persons comment on thyroid.about.com who said that she felt resveratrol had made her hypo. I think she returned to normal when she stopped reservatrol
I think she claimed the professional literature supported that, but I haven't done a search there.
My PCP increased my synthroid dose and I've s.topped the resveratrol as a test. I was already feeling hyper on the higher dose of synthroid.
I'll get retested in a week or so.
I did ask this question on planetthrive, but think I put it in the wrong forum on the site by mistake and have not gotten an answer.
I called my LLMDs ofice and they said that resveratrol couldn't be the cause, nor would any of Buhner's herbs cause this.
I'm still not so sure.

thats strange. but if it's really related to the reservatol...i already have hashimoto's disease. i just monitor my TSH to be clear...

There's also a yahoo group, Lyme_Aid_Buhner, that you could join if you want to.

Resveratrol, Buhner herbs cause hypothyroidism? Bah humbug.
Here are herbs that block the uptake of thyroid hormone:
Lemon balm "melissa officinalis" Bugleweed
Herb that increases the production of T3 and T4:
Ashwaganda you can read about this in Richard Shames, MD's book "Thyroid Power"
Other claims are bogus. Some things can be coincidental timing. Hashimotos can fluctuate on its own and usually does. It can...dip down low, swing high into Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism)...without any dietary, herbal or other intervention. Medication is key.
I have some formal training in herbalism and read voraciously. I also am a Hashimoto's and formerly very severe Graves Disease patient, and know first-hand about this.
I recommend reading Dr Shames's book Thyroid POwer www.thyroidpower.com he discusses herbs and supplements and medications for thyroid, and especially how mainstream testing fails miserably to accurately diagnose thyroid imbalance. And, what to do. He will consult your physician for those who are interested.
