My doctor said she has never had one person respond to plaquenil and I want to try it in light of this new parasite they found in me. However, she says Plaquenil is more for lyme and she has still not seen any benefit with it.

I was on it , but did not appear to help me. They do use it a lot for RA because it is suppose to alleviate the symptoms. climber

I'm a little surprised your doctor hasn't had anyone respond favorably to plaquenil...Did she have her patients on it long enough...Dr. D who has written quite extensively about plaquenil says it may take at least 3 months before the patients starts to feel better on it...
I've heard of a number of lyme patients being helped by Biaxin with plaquenil

Hydroxychloroquine (plaquinel) is used to change the PH in the cell to be more alkaline, so that certain antibiotics can work, and get inside the cell to kill bacteria that may be hiding in there.
It's not a drug used to kill bacteria outright, but has to be used in combination with the correct antibiotics to work against Lyme.
If Your Dr. doesn't know that, then he or she, isn't really as literate as they think they are.

Well Dr. F at Fry Labs says he uses plaquenil and biaxin to take care of this protazoan he found. Does that make sense? My LLMD seems to think it makes no sense to use two Lyme drugs to get to a parasite.

My search of Pubmed or Medical Texts didn't yield any results in which hydroxychloroquine/plaquenil is used in the treatment of babesia/babesiosis. I could only find it in relation to treatment of malaria.
As for tickborne pathogens, I could only find plaquenil used to treat the cyst form of borrelia or as a DMARD for lyme arthritis that doesn't respond to antibiotics....

So it sounds like the treatment for resistan arthritis is interesting...would have you think it is some sort of pathogen causing the resistant arthritis, hence the plaquenil working. Interesting. Thanks

I think parasites are different than bacteria. I believe plaquenil is a antimalaria. Therefore, if you have a new parasite maybe the Doctor at Fry Labs thinks plaquinel is the answer. Plaquanil is is not an antibacterial as far as I know. It does change the PH and make antibiotics more effective. It is however used to treat some parasites like malaria.

For me Plaquenil works on steady basis. I did not feel any changes initially like with some other abx, but over several months I realized it keeps my joint pain in check.
