So my doctor wants me on mepron and zithro for 7-10 days. He said that should take care of babesia. I'm seeing a new LLMD in 4 weeks. Should I even bother taking the medication or should I just wait until I see my new highly recommended LLMD in a few weeks. I'm sure the new doc will want to test for babesia.

I have never heard of ten days of treatment being adequate for treating Babesiosis.
You may want to call the new doctor you will be seeing and ask about taking this; however, the doctor may not be able to advise you until he/she has taken your history and examined you.

I think malaria treatment is often 7-14 days.
Maybe babesia can be treated this quickly if lyme is not involved.
That's pretty scary though if this doc really believes it'll do the trick.
I vote don't take the 7 days of meds, and get in with your new LLMD asap.

Maybe the doctor means it will take care of the suspicion of babesia. I would think 7-10 days of meds will tell the patient either you have it or don't. Although some folks don't herx until 30 days.
I agree. Go to LLMD who we hope knows what to do.

Just wait until you see the LLMD. It could do more harm than good building up resistance to Mepron. I assume he is giving you Mepron as it is the most effective drug against babesia.
It is really very ignorant because Mepron takes a month to build up completely in your blood. That is why the worst herx is usually at four weeks.
Then it takes at least 4 months for the red blood cells to replenish themselves and get rid of the babesia. That is why the minimum treatment time is 6 months.

I would wait. No wonder you're tired of your current dr!

I didn't really have much of a herx. certainly nothing at all after 7-10 days.
i'd wait too.

The only study and literature about Babesia and Mepron states that all of the patients got better after 7 days of treatment. My doc only really wnats me on it for 2-3 months but I didn't feel any improvement until about 2 months in.
I'm starting to feel a little better. No improvement yet with the drunk/drugged feeling but hopefully that will come soon. I'm going to try and convince him to keep me on it longer but we'll see what happens.

Wait until you see the new LLMD. Your current doctor is wrong in his approach.
