AFter wearing an holter for 24 hours, I was told I have Paroxysmal SupraVentricular Tachycardia. Wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing while taking Zithromax and Malarone. for Babesia Duncani. I have been on this combo for the last 4 1/2 months. Or could it be due to the Lyme that I have totally neglected during that time. It is getting pretty bad and I don't know if I should keep on taking the meds? My cardiologist wants to give me an ablation... If the tachycardia is due to the meds or the Lyme, I don't think it will cure the problem. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I had bad tacychardia about a year ago. It has gone away with lyme treatment. I havent' treated Babs yet

Would definitely ask your LLMD to switch you to a different med .. the Zith could be affecting your heart. Why have an ablation if stopping the med could save you that risk?
That said... the lyme could have damaged your heart.

My hubby has tachycardia, but not lyme. There is medication you can take for it without having to have ablation. I would try the medication first. My hubby finally got to where he just takes the medication if the tachycardia starts up.

My daughter couldn't handle the Zith due to heart issues.. She did much better on Biaxin.
I take Magnesium Citrate and CoQ10 for tachycardia.. I have not taken beta blockers since last August.

"Tachycardia" azithromyecin can cause 2 serious side effects- QT prolongation and Torsades de pointes- both of which are cardiac dysrhythmeias. The latter is typically caused by a low magnesium level. The other medication you are on is an anti-malarial medication. Although I am not certain if it has Artemisia absinthium (a common ingredient in anti-malarial medications), if given in combination w/azithromyecin can increase the risk of cardiac dysrhythmias. I use Epocrates premium Online for school. I am still in FNP school despite this being the most difficult year of my life. But if you have any questions about medications, it's well worth the investment. You can actually try it out free for 3 months. Anyways, that may be why you are having tachycardia and if so, torsades can be life-threatening. Have your LLMD check your Mag level. Not sure if azithromyecin can cause problems w/ low mag but I know if you have gut dysbiosis, you are probably low on mag anyways. My LLMD recommends Elemental magnesium.

I have tachycardia that we KNOW is related to the infectious pathogens (Coxsackie B3, B4, HSV1 and a chronic bacterial infection). My cardiologist, my ID doctor and I all agree on that based on what has happened to me. My heart is FINE otherwise. (EKG and echos while not in tachycardia). It is important to determine if it is the pathogens giving you problems or not. If they are I would not want an ablation (one person I know did, and he is much worse off). If your tachycardia is independent of the pathogens, then an ablation is something you and your cardiologist need to decide together.

Artimisin used with malarone is artemisia annua-a different species than absinthium.
I had tachycardia from lyme BEFORE i started the abx-got better with malarone/zith

Ditto to both lululemom and to beths. I switched to Biaxin too. And definitely try upp-ing your Mg. Your issue might be more serious than either would resolve, but then again they might help.
Some literature says Q-Fever can lead to cardiac issues. Have you been tested? If not, do so for sure.

Just popping in to say that Biaxin causes heart symptoms for me. So be careful if you switch to it. I took it a long time with no problems, but my heart is worse now than it was back then.

Which came first-the chicken or the egg? I have had tachycardia for years but i've had Lyme too. i'm taking lots of drugs but Something with a V for the heart along with something else. Anyway-avoid the ablation as a last,last recourse. I've put that way back in my brain-the doc makes it sounds so simple-a "procedure" but if you put me under and do anything that slightly resembles a knife-I call it an operation!
