I am new to this forum. My son is being treated for lyme and has been taking Biaxin and Omnicef for the past 3 months. About 3 weeks ago he started getting rashes. These rashes rapidly appear and disappear within hours to 2 days. They are small red blood spots that do not blanch out with pressure (petechial spots). They appear in various locations around his body. The spots sometimes form a dotted line and other times are just random.
Anyone know if this is related to a specific co-infection?

Thanks. I had seen these photos but they are too blurry for me to match any with my son's. The one for babesia with petechial spots only seems to have a couple of spots that don't look like they would fade. The bartonella photos of streaks are distinct but he does not have those. So I am still wondering? Thanks for the link.

I must be blind I did click on the bartonella photos and some I just can't make out. I am looking for a red pin prick rash that has a cluster of dots or actually form a line. I truly can't tell if any of those photos look like that. Totally not trying to be difficult

Hi Camom, I know meningitis can cause that type of rash. Click on the rash photo in the site below.
For me, a pin prick red spot on the skin that doesn't fade when you touch it and is not raised is a Babesia rash.
But there are people here who disagree.

Thanks Steve. Thankfully no meningitis here.
My llmd thinks its babesia but I am thinking bartonella because my son's symptoms are motor and vocal tics and he has significant immune deficiencies. We are going to retest for co-infections now that this rash is present and see if he turns positive.

Curious, does the babesia rash (petechial red pin prick type spots) show up and stay for good or do they come and go? My husband just mentioned during a back scratch the other day that I have "little red pin prick dots" on my back. He said I've had them for years and that they come and go.

Thanks 17hens. I agree that the pin prick red spots sound like babesia and my llmd thinks so too. Except I am also wondering like mamabear11 if they come and go? My son rapidly appear and then disappear which I did nit think happens with babesia? Also the pictures I ave seen of petechial spots with babesia seem to be spread out and not that numerous. My son gets many (like 20-50 little dots). So not sure if that is representative of babesia?
