for those who have gained weight with lyme, like me, how do you loose it?
i now weigh 200. man, i've got to loose weight.
i can't afford nutrisystem, ediets, you name it. jenny craig is crazy expensive.
and i literally starve on adkins, etc.,
are there any tips for loosing? i could loose 80 pounds easy.

Coconut oil is supposed to be great to increase metabolism. Also read "The Lyme Diet". Great book with a lot of good diet strategies.

I had great luck with weight watchers. Its not that expensive. I was losing 2-6 pounds a week until i got pregnant. Its a bit of work, but i didnt mind it. It wasnt hard to follow.

Go Gluten and Dairy Free and you'll be surprised how much weight you'll lose and how much better you will feel.
I did and lost 15 lbs without even trying, and now eating so much healthier as well.

Randibear hi ! Sice a 50 pound weight gain at the onset of lyme and co I now need to shed approx 60 - 70 pounds to be at normal weight. I find the Atkins plan is working for me - and one of the biggest bonuses is that it reins in my huge appetite. After the first 2 most strict weeks am now eating proteins, non starchy veg, salads, nuts seeds. Banishing sugar and refined carbs has balanced my blood sugar and got rid of that massive urge to eat. Hafl the time now I dont finish a meal purely because I am full and satisfied. Did you try Atkins for longer than the first 2 weeks? Maybe its worth another look? hugssssss

I'm doing the gluten free/sugar free per the LLMD. I've lost 3 pounds in a week without trying. Afternoon snack--turkey pepperoni, cheese, olives, on Mary's Gone Crackers. Lots of salads, eggs, chicken, fish. I feel better and I'm not hungry. Day 3/4 had major headache, probably sugar witdrawal. I'm so used to headaches it didn't phase me.
I too gained about 20 pounds from Lyme so I'm now about 35 pounds overweight. Maybe when this is all done, I'll finally be at a good weight. :-)

I'd echo the gluten/sugar free approach. As an extra "bonus," I eat less since I have gone gluten and sugar free, becasue food just does not taste that good.

I don't know what to replace the gluten products with. I know Walmart carries some things. How do you make it taste good?
I cringe when I think of losing my Blue Bell ice cream but it's dairy and needs to go. I tried the gluten free cereal and it was awful.
Life is no fun anymore. Guess I just want to look in the mirror and have the weight fall off.

The thing about eating gluten free is that you can't just replace the gluten foods with substitutes.
There are GREAT gluten free cookies, crackers, breads, etc., but they will create the same weight issues, if not more.
Gluten free baked goods get their good flavor from more butter and sugar.
I gained weight when I had to go gluten free!
Now I am gluten/sugar/yeast free, and I am losing.

just try to eat like my allergist says you should.
No gluten, No dairy, No sugar, No yeasts.. Nothing that tastes remotely good, or delicious.. and um... yes.. i think thats it.. oh wait.. No Caffeine.. so you will be starving, have a headache, AND be weak from low blood sugar.. but you will look GREAT!

I recommend taking recipes that are gluten free from these 2 cookbooks: The Low-carb Gourmet by Karen Barnaby and 500 Low-carb recipes by Dana Carpender. Most of their recipes are gluten free, and there are really good recipes there.
Also, in the General Information section of Lyme net, there is a recipe thread that has good recipes that are low carb and gluten free.
I really enjoy eating low carb, because for the 1st time in my life, I'm not constantly hungry, and I can control my weight.
You just have to commit to it: take everything out that is a no-no, and pack your kitchen with all the right ingredients.
I just find it a hassle when travelling. I pack my own food. Restaurants are getting better about the gluten free issue.
I'm really glad I found out how to eat the way my body needs, and I really enjoy eating everything I did before: just change what needs to be changed, like (example:) spaghetti squash instead of pasta. You really get the Italian flavor, with a crunchy texture instead of pasta, but I don't mind that. I used to eat spaghetti squash before I found out I needed to eat gluten free, just for the change.

I haven't been able to lose the 25+ pounds I put on the last two years either.....
Until.. I followed a very low fat diet. You all have heard that the llmd here in AZ is recommending a very low fat diet, not really veggie, as I eat meat, but low fat all around.
I saw him today, was weighed like usual... and wow... on their scale, I was 12 lbs lighter today! Thats in 7wks....
I feel wonderful too. Full of energy now that I've been watching my fat intake.
I tried Everything before this, anti-yeast, anti-gluten... nothing was working.
According to llmd... our little buggers thrive on fat to reproduce and live. If we starve them, they can't reproduce and rule our lives. The abx kills them more effectively.
I'm up to walking 2 miles almost every day. Energy plus! I don't notice my clothes fitting any differently with the 12 lbs gone.. but I do feel I'm not so 'puffed' up. I have been saying that this weight gain is like an artificial weight thing.. like all the cells have puffed up!
I do eat red meat. I eat grass fed beef. I noticed when eating that and veggies when at my daughters house this month (new grandma here!) that eating their grass raised beef that I lost 4 real pounds in that week and a half I was there.
This might not work for everyone, or everyone might not agree with the low fat grams. For me, I'm believing what my scientist llmd is finding under his microscope. And so far, it seems like it's working for me.

Seriously, though...its not that bad. Its a PITA, but there are still things that taste good you can eat. It just takes some getting used to. I haven't eaten pasta and bread or cheese in YEARS and honestly, I don't even miss it. I did when I was going off, but now...it doesn't bother me.
Eating veggies, protien, and limitted starches sounds awful but it really isn't that bad. And if you lose wt. and feel better...it DOES make it worth it Posted by annier1071 (Member # 28977) on :
Its hard to say change everything in your kitchen when others are eating the yodels lol!!
I have coconut milk ice cream (yes it has sugar but says its from agave). It is a bit expensive but a scoop at nigth makes me smile!!
I was strict the first two weeks of my treatemnt out of fear and depression. I ate almost nothing..hate veggies and lost ten pounds in one week.
My daughter took me to trader Joes an Wholefoods and we bought brown rice cakes and made our own almond butter, raisan ezeikel bread (a slice toasted every few days) and some other gluten free items. I did not gain the weight back but i DID GAIN back my muffin top!!!
I stay aways from the eggs (only a couple of organice ones a week) I dont want a cholestrol problem since family history of heart disease and stroke. I eat salads with grilled chicken, sliced almonds, peppers, tomato and splurge with avacados. I pray this will take that muffin top away again!!

Yes, this plus-size stuff isn't easy street. Finding clothes to fit and bigger shoes is impossible. To get the larger sizes the tops come down to my knees almost and the legs are way to large.
I think I would do better with my eating patterns if I had a good recipe book and plan to follow.
Has anyone lost weight on Addapex (I don't think this is the correct spelling??)? A lady mentioned it to me and said I should try it. I'd rather go the natural way because you usually gain the weight back after you stop those kind of meds.

I've been eating gluten-free and low-carb for over six years. (I do eat some dairy and don't do low fat). I am not deprived or bored and eat wonderful meals. It just takes a while to "de-carb" your body and mind.

I'm getting ready to do south beach...again. I did it long before I knew I had lyme, lost 20 lbs and kept it off.
Lyme made me gain at least 25 lbs.
Since I started treatment I have lost 30 lbs but still have 15 more lbs to go to be pre pregnancy and pre Lyme lol.
It's like adkins- But I'm not hungry, because you can eat as much of the stuff that you can eat. Eggs, meat, and cheese. So I always find something to eat.
Tomatos with just mayo and salt and pepper, eggs of all kinds- with salsa. All kinds of different things....
Low carb works really well if you can stick to it.

Does the Far Sauna help with weight loss? I know it helps with detox.
I would appreciate a recommendation which ones work best and aren't overly pricey.
