What are people using? I know some go on low dose steroid(cortef I think?) but what about some sort of supplement...anybody using a supplemet they would recommend? I know my thyroid needs hep but I do believe they go hand in hand...

Low dose steroids are controversial on this board...as lowering your immune system can make it tricky to treat lyme.

If you are like me, my morning cortisol levels got so low, lyme has destroyed my entire endocrine system that I had to support with cortef or I would have been dead. I also support with aldosterone and natural thyroid hormone as well.

I know you can go the more natural route and investigate the uses of isocort and licorice...other than that you can read up on the website stopthethyroidmadness and find a lot of useful information regarding the natural treatment of sluggish adrenals.

Please avoid steroids at all costs.

The biggest culprit that stands in the way of recovering adrenals and/or thryoid are the infections.

So although it seems redundant - treat borrelia and co's and your adrenals stand a chance.

As for what you can do now...

Magnesium
Vit C
B5
Adaptogens (Siberian Ginseng, Ashawaghanda, etc)
Protein in the diet

No sugar, caffeine, alcohol(minimal!)
moderate exercise - don't overdo it

I have used cordyceps here and there. Mostly I have used Rhodiola. It is available from Paradise Herbs, or, also, Xymogen has an "Adrenal Support" formula that includes rhodiola.

I also tried ashwaghanda, but never was very good for me.

Steroids for me gave me 6 months of pure hell and almost took my life. Seriously.

I take Transformation Adrenal Complex that my Biological doctor put me on:

I do have more energy since taking them. I'm sure there are any good number of adrenal support supplements out there, this is the one that fits the bill for me.

How do you feel the rhodiola helps your mood?

If you do the B5 & Vit C, use big doses of both. But be careful...it can increase Cortisol too high after a while...so definately you should be under the care of a physician / Naturopath for this.

B5 use about 2000mg/day

herbal tincture of rhodiola, ashwagandha, goldenseal and holy basil

from LLND

and a proprietary adrenal support from EDT practitioner after I tested still a weak in adrenals

I do both now but

the herbal support did wonders for my energy
i felt transformed in three days!

...still ways to go but so dramatic on herbal support for adrenals, it has been a big part of getting my life back

I use 3 products:
Adrenal Complex
Isocort
And 7 Keto-zyme

I also take Thytrophin for my thyroid. It is gentle, and encouraginging my thyroid to wake up a little bit. Before I was diagnosed with Lyme, I was on 6 months of steroids, up to 50 mg of prednisone a day. It nearly killed me. The Lyme has gotten soooo much worse as a result. My LLMD got me off the steroids immediately, and I am positive I would not have survived another 2 weeks of the steroids. Avoid them at all cost!

Thanks all...

I am on Armour for Hashimoto's which seems to be in a 'remission' due to the LDN I am on but i still have symptoms and I have a HORRIBLE time waking up in the morning!

Right now I am using mega doses of VitC, B6, Sea Salt, and Iodorol...I started taking the 7 Keto, I only take 25mg...should I use more?

I do use a rescue inhaler for asthma which is a steroid (albuterol) do you think that would affect me negatively? I figured it wouldn't be an issue as I only use it once or twice a day...

Maybe you should check your 8 am cortisol level and there will be no question as to what the problem is. Whether you are high or low.

Iam on LDN, compounded SR T3, and cortef and have been hanging in there. I am also doing the C, SeaSalt and iodorol too. You are doing all the right things.

I think you should check your labs or check multiple cortisol levels through saliva testing. i know ZRT labs can do it and you need NO doctors order either.

I have been thinking about that saliva test...I am pretty sure my adrenals are junk. I had a hair anaysis done about 10 yrs ago and my adrenals were in the tank THEN...that's 5 years BEFORE I was dx'd with Lyme...I have done nothing to help them since beyond what I am doing now....

Have you read about ligustrum?

www.christopherhobbs.com

GAIA Herbs makes good formulas that are well balanced, ie energizing and calming adrenals/nervous system at hte same time. CHeck out their website.

Stress Take Care by New Chapter Organics, excellent but probably more stimulating than calming, great for fatigue, I wouldn't suggest it in agitated conditions.

Paradise Herbs Orac Energy Greens, fantastic, but probably also more on the somewhat stimulating side so caution if agitation present (nerve zaps, electricity feelings and the like) but great for fatigue. Include medicinal mushrooms too so good for immune strengthening.

The above information has not been evaluated by the FDA and does not diagnose, cure or prevent any disease.

I think calming is what I need...in order to give them a break from being on high alert all the time. I will check out the Gaia herbs for sure, as wel as reading about the ligustrum. Thanks [Smile]

My doc put me on "Adrenal" by Pure Encapsulations for support. It's actually just bovine adrenal glands. I also take Armour Thyroid with it. I seem to have more energy with these.

Can't say that I noticed anything specific that rhodiola did for mood. It was more energy than mood.

Just remembered the name of the Xymogen formula. It was Adrenal Essence.
