People in PA are working really hard, coming up with a battle plan...
Right now they are searching for articles regarding how and why surgery can make Lyme worse...
Can any of you help locate such articles?

You won't find any. None have been done that I've come across and I've looked through the literature.
Not everyone gets worse with surgery. The sicker you are, the higher the probability though. Surgery is stress on the body.
I say this based on what people here say. Usually those below 50% function are affected more.
There are cases where relapse have occurred but they appear to be exceptions rather than common.

sorry but i love surgery its the only way i get iv abx. and the big time pain killers after actually give me some relief
my only problem of about 10 surgeris was my bunion-took 6 months to heal...that was before any lyme tx

I would think that you could make the connection that surgery lowers the immune system-- you can find studies on that easily.--AND--then connect that lower immune systems can lead to Lyme relapses or occurrences.
I dont think you'll find one study showing surgery causing lyme relapses.

An interesting study would be to look at worsening after general anesthesia procedures vs spinal anesthesia procedures; Halogenated gases are used for general anesthesia vs caine type drugs for spinal. the halogenated gases are thought to be degraded by the body, but that results in freeing the halogen which can then displace iodine in thyroid hormone synthesis, rendering the thyroid hormone inneffective in some way. There was a thread on this board a couple of years ago where someone asked if their lyme illness started in association with a surgery; it might be interesting to do an similar informal poll and divide up the responders according to general or spinal anesthesia.
