Has anyone experienced the acid reflux from this med? ALso does taking doxy...increase apetite? [Im never satisfied when eating since taking it]

I have read that others have had bad reflux from doxy and yes, my appetite is much better since I started taking it.
I did a search and saw that the increased appetite thing is not uncommon.
Oh, and apparently you're not supposed to lay down for at least 30 minutes after taking it!

its interesting...so now i have to deal with yet another symptom [acid reflux :-( ]
thank you so much

If I remember correctly, acid reflux is a symptom of bartonella.
Take doxy on a full stomach or halfway through eating. Never take it and lie down. It is a vvery strong antibiotic and will burn a hole in your stomach lining and/or esphasogus if you're not careful.

Doxy is very hard on the stomach, and can cause reflux. Doryx-another form of doxy is easier to tolerate

Doxy in my experience is horrifyingly rough on the stomach, make sure you take it with food, Drink a FULL glass of water when you take it to make sure it goes alll the way to your stomach. DO NOT lay down until 30 min after taking it for the same reason. i ignored these warning and yes folks, it literally burned a small hole in my esophagus. I was hospitalized for a week with air in my chest because thats what hapened. Look up "Pneumomediastinum" Its not fun.
I noticed, the TABLETS of doxy are much easier to tolerate than the capsules, as i am still taking it!

thank you all, that input helped alot!

Doxy has to be taken at least 2 hours away from antacids too. They will lessen the effect of the doxy I believe. Ask your doc or pharmacist what you can take to relieve the reflux and like everyone else said wait at least an hour before lying in anyway.

As Beths mentioned, Doryx is a lot easier to tolerate.
If your insurance covers it, I'd recommend asking your doc if you can switch over to it.
I've taken both regular Doxy and Doryx... there is no comparison.

Now months after I stop taking Doxy, I realize that I was taking it "all wrong". I tried to take it with food but I can't eat very much at all. But I always took it laying down....I live in bed.
Maybe this explains why I threw it up nearly every single day....
And yes! I did experience acid reflux, but I don't know that it was directly related to the Doxy, I have struggled with it for years.

Yes doxy is the worst med for heartburn that I've taken. I get a bit of heartburn even if I take it with loads of water and food.

I always forget and then have to stay up later so I don't lay right down after taking it before bed...I've gotten heartburn badly at first with Doxy...now I think I'm over it.
Posted by brownlymie (Member # 31032) on :
yes, I now realize what doxy does, Imma see about switching.
Posted by lpkayak (Member # 5230) on :
no! switching is not the answer...well to a diff form of doxy would be ok i guess...if your doc and insurance agree
lyme is a fight. some get organized and do the fight and get their life back. some don't.
you have support here. its good you got dx and have started tx - many don'tget that far
lyme itself has over 50 sx
then when you add abx other problems happen: reflux, yeast, and more
its your choice whether to fight or not...it is not easy either way
hang in

I had a terrible time with acid reflux with it for a few days. It was no fun!
Posted by brownlymie (Member # 31032) on :
what did u do to get rid of it?
Posted by Lemon-Lyme (Member # 19229) on :
If anyone gets acid reflux or burns their esophagus from Doxy, I'd recommend:
Manuka honey for esophagus problems. And DGL for upset tummy. I like the chocolate flavored one from enzymatic therapy myself.
I'm not sure if either are a good idea for longterm use, but should be fine shortterm until acid reflux issues are under control.

maybe your body is hungry for protein ?
tetracycline's like doxy and Mino both block protein absorption so watch out for that
how is your muscle tone ?
Posted by onbam (Member # 23758) on :
Yes,it definitely can. Be sure to take probiotics, a few hours away from your antibiotics.

very interesting about the protein absorption thing. I will make sure to up my protein intake. I will also talk to my doc today about doryx. Or another pill form if there is one.
