It should go just fine. I had mine put in with no problems and my daughter had no problems either. She didn't herx from the new meds but I did. I was really sick back then though.
Good luck and stay calm. This was the best treatment I have had so far.

You can read info on how to care for the PICC line at http://InfusingForLymies.com. It includes info on how to avoid rashes from bandages, how to deal with herxes, showering with the PICC, etc.

Not everyone herxes from Rocephin, but don't be surprised if you do.

The PICC install should go easy, just use a heating pad above the insertion point for 20 minutes of the first few hours after you get home to reduce swelling and bruising.

I was suprised to receive the first dose of IV ABX when the PICC was installed. I was alone and had to drive, back to work. I did not have a problem. No wild herx.

Still haven't though I have had some odd sensations in the week since I started IV.

Administering the meds is simple. I have done it at work all week.

One tip I would give, and it depends on what you do with your time. I have a 3.5 year old with a big motor. We are active people. A sliced tube sock was not sufficient for me to manage the tube.

I picked up a cycling-specific product, much like arm-warmers for cool weather but thin and UV rated, from Pearl Izumi called sun skins I think.

20 bucks for a pair at performance bicycles online. I am not associated with the retailer or the product.

But I like that the PICC site and tube is covered, in a snug enough fashion that I do not have to worry about snagging it on a door knob.

It does not bunch up under a dress shirt, and when I am just wearing a t-shirt the look is a little less haggled than the tattered sock look. This might seem vain but after three years I am working hard to not be just a sick person even though sometimes that is all I am.

Jamie.

I dont remember herxing from Rocephin, but I was only on it 30 days. It just made me feel drained. Kinda sucked the life out of me feeling, but that still happens. Good luck

Hey Nicole,
I'm getting mine in on Monday so this post is helpful for me too, thanks.

I'm sure it will all go fine for you tomorrow.
I'm pretty nervous about it so if you could let me know how it went and what it was like I'd appreciate it.

Good Luck.
You can PM me if you want.

I didn't herx from Rocephin either.

Getting the PICC installed was very easy for me, and I think it is for most, but I do have a friend with small veins who had a rougher time.

Infuserve America in Florida is the best, cheapest place to get your Rocephin and supplies. They are really good people and they will get as much as possible from your insurance co.

Make sure your doc puts you on Actigal (Ursodil) to protect your gallbladder!!!

My daughter has been getting IV rocephin three times a week for the past three weeks. Everyone keeps telling us to do the picc line but she is so scared. I'm trying to convince her but she gets squeamish just talking about it. Nicole please let me know what your thoughts are after you get it done. We've talked before and I think you and my daughter(also named Nicole) are close in age.

Good luck I'm sure it will go great!

My only word of advise, ICE ICE ICE!!! Everybody says that it hurts for a week or 2 afterwards just from the procedure. But I went back to my motel and put ice on my arm, right on the insertion site, for several hours.

It was no longer sore by the next evening and it NEVER bruised, AT ALL! And the ice feels so good on it. So yeah, that is what you should definitely try!

I hope it goes well, mine went really great. Just about a 10 min. procedure and your done! Best wishes!!

Could someone go with you? I herxed on rocephin, but it took a few weeks, and by that time, I was almost off. Insurance gave me 4 weeks, but extended it by 2 after the dr. Requested. The other years, I went to the docs everyday for mos at a time and got stuck. She was 40 minutes from me and did this on and off for 6 years. She didnt want to be responsible for infection in the picc for long term use.. Short time is one thing, but 6 years, no one wants to be responsible for keeping, changing, cleaning for a picc. If u get a phone, call. You'll be ok..one step closer to better.
