I finally started my antibiotic treatment on Monday evening but every time I take them, my stomach swells up like a balloon and is very painful (like on the verge of going to the ER painful). Now I haven't taken any of the pills since this morning but the pain is so bad that it is almost unbearable and I can't eat anything. I'm supposed to take them again tonight with food but know I can't right now. The pain has improved since a couple hours ago but I still can't eat and it is still very bad. What should I do? Should I avoid the meds until I call my doc tomorrow? Or should I go to the ER for some pain medication so I can force them down? I tried finding an emergency number for my LLMD but he doesn't seem to have one...

I am taking doxy (100 mg), zithromax (500 mg), flagyl (500 mg), and plaquenil (200 mg).

Sounds like yeast to me.

What is a yeast reaction like?

I was on Diflucan for a month before starting the antibiotics and didn't have any sort of reaction to it so my doc took me off of it. I had tested positive for some yeast markers earlier.

I'm not a doctor but if the meds are bothering you that much and you can talk to your doctor tomorrow. I would hold off on meds until you speak with your doctor.

I would hold off and call the doctor tomorrow. Maybe you can take a break, then add them in one at a time? That way you could figure out if one of the drugs is bothering your stomach.

Sounds like what happens to me when I have yeast really bad. Have trouble eating anything.. and yes, the pain was severe enough for an ER at times. I just knew it was yeast and got treatment for it.

MIGHT be the meds .. but I bet not. (just my opinion with my own experience)

Excellent probiotics:

Whatever you take, take at least 100 CFU's per day. Wish someone had told me that 10 yrs ago!

Do you think I should try taking a Diflucan? I still have some left over. And should I attempt to take the abx? I know none of your are doctors but I just want opinions since I can't reach my LLMD until tomorrow.

I PERSONALLY would try the Diflucan. If it is 200mg .. I would take half. You don't want heavy die-off right now.

What were you eating when taking your meds??

I took the abx's this morning (about 12 hours ago) with a bowl of almond milk and Kashi cereal. I guess the cereal was bad since it has gluten? All I had for lunch was an apple and a banana. Both on the no-no list for yeast, I now see. Also, I took a Diflucan 200mg before I saw your comment Lymetoo, hoping it doesn't cause too bad of a dieoff reaction but I think it has brought a little bit of relief in the pain and swelling. What foods are easy and good to eat with yeast problems? I'm a college student living in a dorm so my food options are quite limited :/ I realized that most of the foods on the "avoid" list of your link Lymetoo are my college staples, like peanut butter, fresh fruits, fruit juice, bread, canned vegetables, yoghurt, etc.

Also, will skipping a dose of the abx tonight make me more likely to develop bacterial resistance? Should I try taking them despite the pain?

Zithromax causes a LOT of stomach issues in many people. Did you try 1 med at a time like someone else mentioned?

My dd could not handle Zith because of the stomach pain, had to change abx.

Works for me too!

You are in a really bad spot being in a dorm. Maybe you could boil some eggs to keep on hand? Buy some nuts, celery, or even raw sugar snap peas or carrots would be better than white foods like cereal.

How many Diflucan pills do you have?

CAll your dr about what is going on with you. Let him know that the Diflucan helps you at this point.
