i went to the store to get some things that were reccomeded here like to treat for leaky gut, heavy metals, yeast, immune boosters, etc and it ended up costing $150 just for 1 month supply. there is so many differences of opinions on what supplements to take. for ex my dr, DR. D in MA says dont take vitamin c or b because the lyme feeds on them. but Dr. Burrascano reccomends these. So what I want to know is are these herbs really helpful or are they mostly just suposed to help in theory, but nobody really knows for sure?

I have been treating Lyme since October. I have had it for over 13 years, but just diagnosed in the fall. My doctor is a MD and a ND, so he uses the best of western and naturopathic medicines. While I have been taking some pharmaceutical drugs, most of what I take is in the form of supplements. I am taking over 150 pills/ drops a day at this point. And I am spending about$ 1200 a month for them.

Now the question is...is it worth it? I can't really tell. My doctor is so thorough that I really do trust him. He really understands the effect of Lyme on our bodies. I had been on high doses of steroids for the 6 months prior to my diagnosis. When I walked into his office I was in really bad shape. There was a period of time I was not sure I would survive.

But I have listened to my doctor, and taken all the things he has told me to take. The past week or so I feel something shifting. I have not made any progress with the Lyme symptoms. Those have gotten worse. But I feel as though my body finally has some of the much needed support I have not had in so long. I feel as though my adrenals are functioning again. I do not feel like a walking zombie. I have color to my skin (I was grey).

I do not know what you are taking, so I can't answer anything for you. But for me, I think it is money well spent. It is hard to explain, but I feel like all the vitamins and supplements have breathed some life into me. I no longer feel like at any moment I am going to collapse. Now I am ready to start fighting the little buggars that have made me so sick. I guess it all comes down to having a doctor that I can trust. If he tells me I need it, I can listen to him and take it. All 150 of them.

I hope this helps. It is so hard to navigate on our own. There are so many conflicting ideas about what we need. I hope you can find something that works for you.

Is that all?

The first month my son was sick I was spending $150-$200 a WEEK on supplements.

I spend more now because we are using herbs to treat the infections, eating organically, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free... I buy fluoride free toothpaste, additive free shampoo, conditioner and soap... not to mention tests for mold, doctor's appointments, hair tests, buying some supplements overseas because of FDA restrictions...

Yes, it is expensive to get well.

You can stay ill rather inexpensively.

Everyone is different, with different deficiencies. The best way to get the right supplements FOR YOU is to find someone to do muscle testing (applied kinesiology) or ART testing on you. You can then only take what your body needs.

katrinab.... That is a small price for the herbs.

Searching says, "think it is money well spent. It is hard to explain, but I feel like all the vitamins and supplements have breathed some life into me."

I must agree, from being in bed 6 days out of a week, I am up and moving around. Yes, I am still in pain, but I am functioning now...What a great feeling. Detox and soaps and the list goes on... my opinnion...it's worth it for me.

I forgot to mention another reason my supplements are more expensive than they used to be. I try to avoid fillers wherever possible. So instead of buying the cheapest... now I look for the most pure and hopefully the most potent!

I can relate. My supplement/herbal budget is the largest of my medical expenses. Less than ABX. Less than my LLMD.

And there are two in our family with Lyme.

Wish I could find a cheaper way of purchasing VSL#3

The best herbs are very inexpensive if you make them yourself -- here's the idea:

Have other people help you out or pay kids a nominal fee to find roots or plant materials, then make tinctures. You can get a method for making them on the internet with some research. I make mine with alcohol, if you put a dropper of the tincture in 8 oz of water, there is less then a .4% of alcohol in the drink, which is less then a banana. Another way of looking at it, you would have to use 15 dropperfuls to equal one beer.

Lets do the math, we'll say there are 40 drop in a dropperful and 1200 drops per ounce. So 1200 time 8 ounces is 9600 drops 40/9600=.0041 or .41 of a percent of alcohol. If you put the dropper in hot tea most of the alcohol will evaporate off.

Black hull walnut is one of the easiest tinctures to make and an important tincture for cleansing parasites. I made 60oz for about 20 dollars, a single oz at the store costs about 10 dollars.

In my area I can easily make the following:

Yarrow,
St Johns wort,
echinacea,
poke,
burdock,
black hull walnut,
teasel,
dandylion,
nettles,
and there are lots more...

I could also buy the plant materials from mountainroseherbs.

You do have to be careful the plant is identified correctly. The plants listed above are very easy to identify.

You can also combine plant material to have more then one ingredient.

Black hull walnut is a great tincture for organic iodine by the way.
