I've been posting here a few times, I see questions for a zillion Lyme symptoms (many of which I have had over the last 12 years) I've tried antibiotics, different doctors, different herbal remedies. But from what I read here, everyone is still fighting the fight, but does anyone ever get rid of the bug?

Many do get better with proper, long-term treatment. There are several people on this board who are 100% well after having lyme for years.
It can be done but the doctor is key. You also need to be sure you check for co-infections and treat them appropriately.
ARe you seing an LLMD. How long have you tried antibiotics? Have you done combo's, treated cysts, biofilms, etc.
Have you detoxed and treated for parasites?
There is a lot to do.

I'm better. I don't do anything to treat Lyme or coinfections any longer. I have been better since August 2009.
I do continue to eat healthy and detoxify my body to optimize my health, but I lead a healthy, normal life now without worrying about Lyme Disease (other than the fact that I avoid leaving the pavement as much as possible).

I've been off abx for 6 1/2 yrs and doing great... bcb is right .. get a good LLMD who knows how to treat it. You may also have coinfections that have not been addressed.

Oh my gosh, I saw a photographer posting pictures on her blog of photoshoots she did in North Carolina, and she had babies and toddlers sitting in big piles of leaves at the edge of woods.
She may as well have been dangling those babies from balconies as far as I was concerned.
I'm so sad that I now have a nature phobia
It's like...just the mention of lice makes you scratch your head. Just the site of a pile of leaves makes me feel like ticks are crawling on me.

As my doc said to me-- you can get into remission but you still carry Bb in your body forever. Basically the goal is to get you to an asymptomatic state. I have been told too by my doc that you never fully eradicate Babs or Bart you just get your load down enough that the immune system takes over. I agree with the mentors above... get into the hands of a great LLMD. That is the best thing I ever did and I am still fighting the good fight but with more better days than not... hopefully on my way to becoming asymptomatic. Lets put it more positively, I believe I will get there like Six and Lymetoo... thank God for all those that have gone before us and help light our way to wellness... Never, ever give up!

I thought short grass was fine. According to the state of CT, tick tubes, etc...they all say if you have a 3' much border around your lawn, separating the woods from the grass, then the amount of ticks on your lawn are next to nothing since it is so dry.

Any grass should be able to harbor ticks. NO WAY you could pay me enough to actually sit on it.

Hi Randi: You are are dear... And, like I said-- after having this I would not discount anyone's pain... Like they say, you have to have Lyme to "get" Lyme. Isn't that the truth...
Lyme too- Yes, she is well aware and keeps doing it... I am concerned for her well being ... I have warned her and all of that... but I can't make the decisions for her... Thanks though...

I stand corrected. If you kicked it butt, God bless. I've tried, still trying, think my immune system isn't strong enough. One chronic lyme sister with excruciating pain, one with minimal symptoms, son with 3 year antibiotics under his belt, ..with our genetics it doesn't look too good.

Now that I'm well, "next to nothing" isn't good enough for me. I walk in grass, but I will not sit in it. I only walk in it because I think the chances of ticks being there are close to nothing.
I am not nor ever have been "outdoorsy". I love the beach (I know it can be different out east, but in the sandy FL beaches where my family is from, I've never heard about nor seen a tick) and the ocean. I love bike riding on paved bike trails. I don't need to hike and camp.
Everyone has to make their own decision in this regard. For me, it's not worth the risk. If the outdoors was my life, I might think differently.

We used to cape cod every summer when my son was young. I'll never forget dr. J. In ct had a sign pretty begin his office that had"Lyme in the Cape". Boy did that put a damper on our vacations. Didn't realize the hay on the beaches had ticks. I guess when it comes down to it, it's just keep Checking.

I agree with Dr. B's prognosis on this one:
Prognosis -May not cure infections, may need open-ended maintenance therapy
I feel it's time people were told the truth about obtaining complete remission from this disease. I think there are very few that were chronic and now completely symptom free.
Getting to a point of somewhat normal can happen and it doesn't mean antibiotics for years and years. It can be done with diet, supplements, and lifestyle. I am not an expert I just know what worked for me.
That being said there may be some that need open ended antibiotic treatment but I feel those are extreme cases.

With our grandchildren living here, in rural California, we are very concerned about ticks. My son plans to spray the whole hillside. I have heard that Orange Guard is a good way to go because it is non toxic. He thinks we need a more powerful chemical to kill the ticks.
But we suggested that first he get everything trimmed down and then mark out areas where kids can play. I also try to bathe them every night when they have been out climbing up and down the hills.We are all concerned about tick exposure!
