Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I saw some old posts wondering whether people experienced weight gain on Rifampin.I certainly have, and I am wondering if anyone else had this experience and if it reversed when you went off.
I am aware of the interaction of Rif and thyroid meds, and they've been adjusted once. Time to test again, but in the meantime, I feel like a woodchuck. Love the rifampin, hate the weight gain.

I was wondering the same thing. I am taking Synthroid and gained a bit since going on Rifampin a few months ago. A take the Synthroid far away from my abx and have had thyroid rechecked a few days ago and #s have not changed, they look good. I would love to know if this weight will come off also.

you can always lose weight in the future when you feel well, the bugs that Rifampin is prescribed for are hard to get rid of without it or other bartonella meds, so I'd recommend not worrying and trying to get well enough to exercise (and remember, that might mean 'walk 1 block a day if you're too ill to do more).

joysie, I am so glad you posted about interactions between Rifampin and thyroid meds. I was not aware of this.
Since I have been on Rifampin, my thyroid levels have been decreasing over time and I have been feeling very hypothyroid. I had two thyroid med increases over several months, and they did not help. Now I know why!

I just started Rifampin yesterday and I am on armour thyroid. I have years of an underactive thyroid and have already gained so much weight.
Should I do something to keep from gaining more weight? I wonder why the LLMD never ever mentions these things...just says take this and that. Guess no chance of losing this HUGE muffin top by summer now!

Oh, I don't want to alarm-my muffin top (although more of a loaf at this point) may be my own fault and Maria, thanks for the concern, but I'm not really "worried", just curious.I actually feel decent!
Rifampin does speed the metabolism of thyroid hormone, so my doc has me check frequently along with liver. I'm a few weeks overdue. So, just wondering if anyone else was having this experience!
I will post if I find out anything exciting.

I have gained some weight on Rifampin but it's because I'm eating like a pig. I don't know if the medicine is causing more of an appetite or if I'm dealing with some depression and eating for no reason.

This would explain why my daughter has been gaining so much weight lately.
Will Rifampin makes you hungrier or just mess with your thyroid??
She is hungry all the time and she has put on about 15 lbs in seven months.

Haley and kids, I do not have any more of an appetite than usual, and am not eating badly. I am exercising frequently. So..don't know the answer.
