i was reading the askapatient site about biaxin, which i happen to have a ton of but haven't taken.

the side effects that people were listed, dizziness, itchiness, drowiness, joint pain, etc., all sound like a herx to me.

so can these "side effects" really be a herx and maybe these people don't know they have lyme? but then there would be probably millions of more people who really have lyme, right?

my dr said he only considered throat swelling, severe rashes, heart palpitations, as an allergic reaction and anything else was a minor side effect. interesting......

I think you have it backwards.

A lot of the time people will write off side effects as "herxing".

The side effects listed aren't gathered from people who have taken the drugs and written in saying "I got a headache after taking your Biaxin!!!". There are controlled drug trials, which, for the most part, are very scientifically accurate.

If you experience any severe side effects, please tell your doctor.

i think i understand what you're saying however, i must disagree. the askapatient site is individuals who just note on the net that they have these effects. they are not part of a controlled trial. if there is a place on the site that explains that this is a result of a controlled trial i would appreciate hearing about it. but they have a section where you can enter your remarks and i wouldn't think a controlled trial would allow just anyone to do that, but then i may be wrong.

it's interesting that their symptoms start about the same time a herx does.

so are you saying that individudals here are not experiencing a herx but rather a side effect and that most people do not herx but rather are having just side effects?

whoops, my bad, should have browsed to the site in question before posting.

my point is that side-effects and "herxes" can be hard to distinguish from one another.

I agree. I have always thought the same thing.
