I am having these 2 tests in under 2 weeks because of nausea, occult blood in a stool test, followed by sudden disended abdomen over 2 weeks ago that won't go back down [although I am able to have BMs].
One concern here is the radiation from the CT scan, so I wondered if any of you good people here have any suggestions for a post -scan regime to help to offset that?
In the short term, I have stopped all supplements [except probiotics and 1 milk thistle daily] in case they do any 'trimming' during the colonoscopy.
I would really value any advice here,
Carry

Antioxidants and comprehensive mineral supplements are going to be the most useful to your body for offsetting the effects of the radiation from the CT scan.
But don't get too concerned...I've had lots of CT scans, X-rays, fluoroscopy, etc. and I don't glow in the dark yet, LOL!
After the colonoscopy, you'll want to make sure to get plenty of probiotics and omega-3 EFA's. Coconut oil is of great benefit to the colon; the short-chain fatty acids feed the probiotics and also help reduce inflammation and irritation from the procedure.
I hope they don't find anything serious on these tests...
Also, on the prep for both - drink as much water as you possibly can. I find the Magnesium-based laxatives to be much easier on my stomach than the GoLytly or Fleet's Phosphasoda. You can also use Miralax, but would need to start Miralax about 5 days prior to the colonoscopy because it is so slow to work compared to the other types of laxatives.
I hope this helps...take care,

There is a thread here on page one or maybe page two about CT scans. Someone posted how to clear the toxins following a CT scan.
For my colonoscopy prep they wanted me to drink Gatorade - which I substituted with Alacer Electro Mix. What a difference the elecrolytes made with my second colonoscopy. I felt so much better.
Then afterwards lots of probiotics.
I've never hat the othere test so I can't offer any suggestions.

Ask for the mineral and ducolax prep instead of the big jug you mix together. Easier on the rest of your system and it works just fine.

Hi, Hope your tests go well. Be careful with the Omega 3's, especially if they "trim" the colon, a known side effect is bleeding, including hemorrhagic stroke.
Also the use of phosposoda for a colonoscopy prep is no longer used here as there have been incidents of renal failure due to formation of crystals in the kidneys.
Drink plenty of fluids after CT scan to flush out kidneys.

Many thanks, Grace, I'll wait before resuming Omega 3's and will be sure to drink a lot after the scan,
