I am aware of the insert on this medicine which says that the efficacy of Mepron would be decreased if taken with Rifampin.
There are, however, a couple of famous LLMDs that prescribe this.
Anyone here on this combo? I also would be interested in dosage, how long etc.. if you would like to PM me.

Mepron is so expensive I can't imagine lowering it's effectiveness taking Rifampin with it. You could use levaquin instead.

Haley,
I am supposed to start taking Rifampin with Mepron, although will be taking them at different times; Rifampin on an empty stomach, Mepron with fat later.
My LLMD (may be same as yours) thinks it's a better choice than levaquin.
We'll see how it goes...

Haley: I took both together because I had such unrelenting foot pain that he went ahead and put me on Rifampin (Bart) with the Mepron. I was on it for about 7 months strait two teaspoons a day 2x a day and about the third month, Rif was added. I did not take them separate which I should have as the Rif is much more effective on an empty stomach. I think I have beaten the babs as the night sweats have not come back and I have been off for about a month- actually a month tomorrow. So- for me - it may have decreased efficacy but the benefits were greater than the cost. I trust the experience of my doc and he has not led me wrong yet. I hope it will be as successful for you...

Also Haley- I ate 30 grams of fat with each Mepron meal -- almonds - almond butter, these awesome cashew almond clusters from Costco... whatever it took to get the fat in. I believe that helped with absorption a lot.

I was also on that combo. At one time I was on Mepron with Rifampin and another time Malarone with Rifampin. It does decrease the effective dose of Mepron/Malarone but I just increased the drugs to compensate and after awhile I decreased the Rifampin.
