I found an attached dog tick on my son. It was in his ear. It was not engorged and hopefully only there a couple of hours but could have been longer.
I have looked at a ton of pictures and I'm pretty sure it is a dog tick. We were in our neighborhood all day, mostly riding bikes and playing in the street. I'm officially scared of my own yard. We even had it sprayed a couple of weeks ago.
What should I do? I've read that dog ticks don't transmit Lyme, but I'm not sure I trust anything I read. My first instinct is to take him to the doctor and get antibiotics.
Thoughts?

Did he get a Bull's eye rash? That would indicate that Lyme was transmitted.
If you still have the tick you could have the tick tested. I was not aware that dog ticks don't carry Lyme.

Did you get to save the tick?

I just took the tick off of him an hour ago. Yes, I saved the tick. I was worried that I would not be able to see a rash since the tick was attached in his ear.

My daughter had one in her ear. The tick looked like a black head. It was red around it but the rash was under her hair line!
