In 3 months my LLMD wants me to go on tygecycline. I heard it can make you very nauseous.
I am trying to figure out 2 things:
1) He makes you do the first dose in his office. I live in TX and he is in DC. Will I be able to fly home without barfing all over the plane? Should I time my flight a certain way so the nausea will be over before I fly?
2) I want to try to continue working while I'm on the program. My LLMD (Dr. J) does M, W, F pulsed dosing. Will I be too nauseous to work (i.e. throwing up in a garbage can at my desk all day) or will the pulsing allow me to not get too nauseous, or possibly work from home only on MWF?

Ask for zofran or something in the office. Try to eat before you go there.

I'm sorry, I don't remember when exactly the nausea started. I think it gradually got worse after a couple doses. I took it twice daily, no pulsing.
Like gatorade girl said, ask for zofran and eat (protein + carb) before to help prevent the nausea.
And try not to expect the worse. You may not have a problem with the nausea.

About the flight, try to get tickets on a larger plane if you can. The small puddle jumpers always make me nauseous.

I didn't have the extremem problem so many here had/have with Tigecyl. The first week I was mostly in bed & lived on crackers & ginger ale.
I never did any anti-nausea drugs. After first month was bearable & only had it on & off throughout the days.
By the 3 month rarely had it.
My dose was 50mg. 2X day every day w/no pulsing.
Did 4 months, would have done more but got blood clot in PICC arm.

Thank you all!! I will make sure to ask for the nausea pills. Yes, I am hoping for the best and planning to be just fine, but I wanted to make sure I had someone there if I was going to be sick on the plane. Otherwise I would go by myself.
I have had an experience with being violently ill on an airplane before and I need someone there with me. I'm pretty tough and can handle most things but I have the tendancy to pass out when I throw up.

Why don't you call and ask him if you can do the dose in your local doctors office !
Seams dumb to spend hundreds of dollars just for one dose of an antibiotic.

What is tygecyline used for? Is it used for ketes or bio's and how long is it taken?
I would ask the doctor for Phenergan belly-jelly as well as the Zofran. Sometimes it works quicker and I know if I'm nauseous I can't swallow a pill.
