HI all -

well I got the IGENEX results back a little over a month ago. the dr that interpreted them for me said that I need to treat the lyme according to the following results.

these is what it says for the IGG:
IGENEX - POSITIVE and CDC/NYS - negative

1 + sign is next to: 30, 31, and 58
2 ++ signs next to: 41
IND next to: 34 and 39

and then the next page for the IGM:
IGENEX - negative and CDC/NYS - negative

1 + sign next to: 18, 30, and 66
IND next to: 31, 41, and 83-93

So..it looks like the IGM (current infection) is negative since I'm not positive on any double-starred band...but the IGG (past infection) is positive, according to IGENEX that is, because I have 2 starred bands with positives..

I've done the research here, on trying to interpret these, but it still doesn't make sense to me.

If I'm only showing postive to the IGG result, meaning an "old infection" for lack of better words, doesn't that mean I just have the antibodies for it, like any other infection we had in the past (i.e. chickenbox) and that I fought this in the PAST?!

yes, I'm sick...yes, I definitely want to get better, but I'm having a hard time with this thing saying it's just positive the IGG...

am i missing something / not getting something here??

"With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.

Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.

But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.

Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result.

Yes, Lyme is different than other infections. I was IgG postiive yet had an active infection. My LLMD told me that a + on band 31 IgG takes a year to show up.
