I have reseached yeast and came up with every home remedy imaginable except the real facts. My own LLMD never warned me nor did I know that I was at risk of yeast being on antibiotics. All I ever had was an occasional vaginal yeast infection throughout my life. Candidiasis, Left untreated, this can kill you. All these home remedies, a carb/sugar free diet or certain supplements are nonsense, they will not CURE you, only a prescription anti fungal. A good probiotic is essential for preventative measures as is Nystatin or Diflucan in your regimen. Keeping your diet low in sugar and carbs is also important in prevention. I thought you might be interested in these sites for more information on this subject. Again, I am still fighting this and trying to stay on antibiotics while on Diflucan. Twice, I almost went to the hospital because I thought I was going to die. It has been a little over 2 weeks since I started Diflucan (again) and I am in a herx. I am so used to feeling this way that it really isn't a big deal anymore. I had blood tests done yesterday for liver function, if that is fine, the doctor will increase my Diflucan. Other than that, I just want it added to my weekly regimen.
I wish I could explain to you all my experience with this. How frustrated I am by my own LLMD.
If he just put me on a preventative measure and to educate me. Nothing. [cussing] I started treatment in October and by February I started with yeast symptoms. He never moved on the symptoms until I finally said that I Thought I had yeast. Then he put my on Nystatin. A month later I got hives from head to toe, it was awful but no one figured out that hives were a sign of yeast. I fought with this for a month, went off all medications to see if ABX were the cause. I then begged LLMD to put me on Diflucan. At that point, I did not know the hives were related to yeast. I only got a 10 day supply and didn't even herx from it but the hives slowly went away as the diflucan took effect. My other symptoms eased but never went away. I was so sick from lack of ABX, I couldn't even walk, I had to go back on Minocycline. Within 2 weeks, my inflammation felt better in the joints, but the yeast was back full force. No hives, thank God, but dry mouth, dry skin, crying jags, excessive urination, constipation, depression, severe anxiety, extreme fatigue, shaky, wobbly, brain fog, nausea, irritable and some others that I forgot. Many of these are similiar to lyme, Bart and Babs symptoms and other autoimmune disorders. It is so hard to tell what is what.
This is why I am posting this to help someone else. I had no one, not even my doctor, just my computer.
In good health,
Kerry

Keep preaching. Maybe someone around here will eventually listen. I've been telling people here for the past 10+ yrs. Most ignore me.

Hope you can find a REAL LLMD. One who knows about candida.

I believe all of you, and also the power of an antifungal over dietary measures. I started antifungals a few days in to antibiotics and, boy oh boy, a couple times when I missed doses I knew it. I couldn't believe how quickly candida could jump in and start wreaking havoc, and then how quickly another dose of antifungal could stomp it out.

I'm sorry all of you had to suffer so much to learn what some of us take for granted. Lymetoo, I have listened, for sure.

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

Kerry23--I so feel your pain! I agree that this is very important! Everyone should consider the serious implications of candida! It's very bad and hard to get rid of.

I have bad candidas from years of abx.s that were taken w/o an awareness of yeast over-growth.

I find that I am slowly getting better with naturals, diet, increase in exercise and IR Sauna. So I am at least one person who is getting better w/o pharm.s.

The medication anti-fungals make me too sick. I like a more gentle approach because; 1. it works for me and 2. the herx is not so bad that I end up sabotoging my own efforts by stopping.

Yes, I could go back on the Dif. and /or Nystatin but I get so sick I cannot function. I don't know if it will take longer doing it my way but I at least know it is helping and the die-off is managable!

can you herx from the diet?

also what kind of naturals? i've tried all the pills on the web practically and they don't help -- candex, candiclear, syntol, you name it.

.I never herxed from diet or natural "cures" only from Nystatin and Diflucan.
Chiquita: I am happy for you.
This is my opinion and belief. I tried your route and it did not work. I have spoken to physicians and one told me that the naturals mask the symptoms. I did not mean to offend anyone in anyway.
Yeast can kill: that is a fact. I am extremely upset with my physician. The only statement I got out of him was, "no sugar".

yeah but kerry, hon, how do you convince doctors to even give you the dang diflucan and that you have yeast?

i bet 95 percent of the medical community does not believe in systemic yeast. cause they sure didn't in mom's case and she died...
