my daughter was bitten by a tick a few days ago........her Dr said he would px amoxy......i asked for doxy...(she is nearly 10 and 70lbs).....
anyway doing a search here there seems to be a lot of disagreement about doxy for kids......
it is a 21 day course of 100mg twice a day?? why are some people so strongly against doxy for kids????

Generally doxy is not recommended due to discoloration and/or damage to the teeth it can cause in kids.
If a child had been exposed to RMSF or Ehrlichiosis, exceptions are made in some circumstances.

I would take your daughter to her dentist and have her teeth x-rayed. As long as the 4 points are formed on her molars and her permanent teeth are formed she should be fine.
Even if they are not in yet. My dentist told us that the root could become discolored but his teeth won't since they were fully formed.
Check with your dentist though to see what they say if you are worried.
And yes, there can be come discoloration on the backs of the teeth, but it has come off for us with regular cleanings.

I usually just lerk, but I signed in for this one, lol.
I would seriously go with the doxy. I have the staind teeth myself from a doxy in the 70's. I was 6yrs old at the time and they didnt know it staind teeth at the time.
It is just whiter spots on my two front teeth. You can hardly notice it.
Doxy is better for lyme than amoxicillin. And it crosses the bbb. Also the age that children are safe from the staind teeth is age 8.
I hope she gets better quickly! Children do respond quicker to treatment than we do.

just_ma....thanks.....its so hard....i feel more confident with the doxy but worried about the teeth as she doesnt have all her adult teeth yet.....some still coming up.....
its not like she is on it for a long time.......
just really dont want her to go down the lyme road........

My son 9 1/2 and 66lbs is on Doxy 200mgs daily for 30days prophylaxic for tick bite.
Doxy is the only drug that cover's co-infections...and children above the age of 8 can take it.
Ceftin can also be used as well.

momintexas..I did as you suggested earlier and contacted her dentist.....as she is late losing her teeth she is actually only at agee 8 teeth development wise......and doesnt have all her adult teeth in......
I dont feel I can win either way.........

her tooth enamel probably has already been set on her adult teeth....
Children loose teeth at different rates....an x-ray can show how many primaries she has above each baby tooth...and that enamel has already been set and safe for doxy use!
