Has there ever been a confirmed study of the Bb spirochete being passed as an STD, much like Syphilis? I've heard rumors, but was wondering if there has ever been a reputable study on this topic.

I think you should use the search feature to see that this has been discussed about once per week with about 50 responses each time.
The facts are...no, there has been nor formal study showing proof. Onbam and a few others will show / reference some studies which suggest proof. Others have theories that it could potentially be.
But the fact of the matter is ILADS doesn't say that it is (yet) and most people feel it isn't enough or it isn't likely. They attribute couples having lyme as both people are typically in teh same environment (yard / woods) and therefore exposed to the same vectors.

Haven't been any studies, and really impossible at this point, given state of diagnostic testing and ethics considerations. All you can do is listen to the experiences of others, listen to the opinions of those you trust, and by all means think for yourself. No study is going to answer this in your lifetime, sorry.
I would say the spirochete's similarity with syphilis places the burden of proof belongs with anyone thinking it is not STD.
I've heard of enough cases where couples/families are involved that I could go along with theory of environment being the cause of multiple infection in many cases, as mosquitos could be at play rather than ticks in many cases. However, it is then even harder to believe it can be transmitted by mosquitos but not sexually.
