I have a buddy of mine who was diagnosed with rocky mountain spotted fever 20 years ago. He has similiar symptoms to me. He has had them since he was treated by the va for it. He had to diagnose himself and was given two weeks of abx. This has severly disrupted his life for 20 years. Is there any ties to the two diseases?

I also tested positive for RMSF last June. The likelihood that your friend contracted other TBDs with the RMSF is likely. The abx took care of the RMSF but 2 weeks was not enough for whatever else he contracted. He should see an LLMD.

Most ticks carry more than one disease. He likely was infected with Lyme also at the same time. The RMSF could become chronic if not properly treated. Two weeks doesn't sound like enough to me, but I'm not an expert on it.

I first found out I had RMSF. I didn't know of a bite and had no rash...but my general doctor luckily tested for RMSF. Took doxy for 2 weeks for this and was okay. Then about a month later I started to feel awful again. I tested negative for RMSF with my regular doctor, and then eventually went to a LLMD. Was then diagnosed w/ Lyme. She agreed with the RMSF treatment I had, but said if the tick has one disease it likely has other. I was tested for other co-infections, but only have Lyme. I am actually thankful I had RMSF, otherwise I don't think I would have ever found out I had Lyme.
My guess is your friend didn't just get RMSF from that tick.
